i know i know, i get what i pay for, but hey, cant afford full coilovers right now. the deal is i adjusted the coilovers all the way down and installed the front. after i lowered the front end down, it had lowered it not even an inch??? whats the deal here. does anyone know if thy need to set or anything cause i was expecting a further drop than that. Might have to end up taking them out
thanks all

Did you get coilover sleeves? or full coilovers? Coilover sleeves, you have to use Koni shocks or remove the spring support attached to the mcpherson strut, so you can move the sleeves lower. You then weld the sleeve lower that will allow you to drop the car the full 4" or adjust it accordingly..But if you just simply put the sleeves on top of the spring support then it wont work very well.. Thats why Koni shocks are perfect for this since they do not have the spring support think around them.

P.s. Try cutting the coil spring a bit too. They usually have dead coils on the ends that car be removed with out affecting the spring pound rate.

Using Koni struts would help as much for lowering the car as much as using stock struts would. Koni "struts" are just inserts that need to be fitted into gutted out stock strut bodies. In either case, you'd still need to cut the stock spring perch and have the sleeve welded on to the body itself. A while ago (not sure if it still exists) there was an install of custom coilovers using universal threaded sleeves and springs where the sleeves simply rested on the strut's lower bolt flange (after cutting the stock perches off).

it might just be that they use a universal pic, but every pic i've seen for the Arospeed and other generic coilover/ sleeve combo for the 240sx has not had dead coils. Regardless... it sounds like he's looking to drop a few inches more, which usually isn't plausible by simply cutting dead coils.

I meant to say that but just didnt explain my self very well. Anyhow Ground Control does this by request and it seems work very well. My friend had this setup on his FC RX7 and it handled extremely good, he even won ASP that year in AUTOX with that setup.

I used to sell Arospeeds products when i had the online store and almost all the coils we stock were a bit different.. They are notorious for putting in the wrong sleeves in their springs, this one of the reason we stopped carrying them. The webmaster for arospeed who is one of my good friends just simply uses the same pic to save time for all the products...But moist of their coilover sleeve kits are basically the same..

Another thing I noticed was when GC's first came out everyone said you had to use AGX's with them. I think it's because the AGX's have that cupped area that welds the shock mount on lower but brings the actual mount up. cutting off a portion of that "cup" would leave a pretty nice seat from the looks of the AGX's, at least in every pic i've seen of them. That might be another route if you're afraid of welding and such.

If you cant get them to compress enough just take the whole unit to a shop, most shops have a wall mounted machine that will take a loose strut and mount a spring on it in a matter of seconds. I would just go around back and give some dude $10 for his time. ( all of two or three minutes for all four loose struts--meaning off the car struts and springs).

I have GC with the AGX's and GC fitted them to the AGX's all it really looks like they did was remove the spring perch and weld a bead around the strut body for the sleeve to sit (like AceInHole said)

I just happen to install these coilovers on my brothers 240sx(91) this weekend and happen to use the same coilovers....The front was a bit of a hassle because of that hex shaped looking cap on it. The manual says u need a special tool to remove it, but I just filed down the edges and the sleave fit right over it. The back was pretty self explanitory. Mine had no instructions, so I guessed and used the short set of springs for the front(ive done like 20 coilover conversions, and the short springs allways seem to go up front). It dropped it pretty damn low with them set all the way up. There's about a 1" gap in the front with 205/40/17 rims/tires. I may grind off some of the stock perch so Ill be able to spin the new perch down the sleave. As of now, Ill only be able to drop it about 3/4" more, but i may just leave it. The back end is all the way up on the sleave and it leaves about 1/2" but it looks pretty damn good. Its a little bouncy, but for 120 coilovers, I can't complain, just some shortend struts all the way around should really help the handling, but that wont be for a while....

Do you think you could have put the Rear springs on the front, because the rear springs are almost twice the length of the front springs uncompressed.

Let me know 'cause im kind of curious

no, i put the right ones in the front. part of the strut wouldnt l;et me fit the sleeve on right, so it didnt seat right.
Yeah, thats the little Hex looking piece of metal I was talking about that u just need to file off, it takes about 5mins a strut, its just a 1/32 of an inch so it pretty simple, once thats done, its smooth sailing
