If you are enjoying your 240 while drifting, powersliding, whatever-the-hell-else-people-call-it, why would you give a shit if some person in your computer says your not conforming to thier standard of what is cool to do in your car?

That said, who here actually would consider themselves expert/experienced "drifters"? And who here could give a shit less about drifting and what anybody else has to say about it?

The only difference i see between the drivers in japan and the drivers in the USA is that the drivers in japan do it for fun...here in the USA everyone has something to proove and it looses the meaning...i do it because i love it, i dont want to go pro or anything like that. In fact, im going out right now to hit up 4 canyons within my area and just see how they are cause its FUN FOR ME. I dont care if you guys think its ricey or not or they can do it and they cant...im doing it cause im fun and i dont give a fukk what anyone else says.

very nicely said.

and try to keep it off the streets.
Yeah, nicely said indeed. I've always thought people cussing with no end always got their point across much better than someone that takes everything in nice and calmly and then presents a logical argument.

In case you didn't pick up on it fellas that was extreme sarcasm.

QwIKjAp, you seem to have been watching a little too much Initial D yourself. Just because in an anime a guy named Ryosuke used his track experiences to make him better on the street doesn't mean "most drifters just use those for practice". That's a pretty ignorant statement for more reasons than I care to point out at this time.

The drift culture in Japan is what, 30 years old (max)? You think that's longer than it's been around in America?

No buddy, i just get so mad cause thats stupid. Who cares about when drifting came around here.....if you guys want to kno some facts....u said driftings been around 30 years max in japan.....well theres a group of guys locally by me who have been drifting in this one area for 35 years OH MY GOD ITS BEEN AROUND LONGER IN AMERICA LETS ALL CRAP OUR PANTS AND MAKE A HUGE DEAL OF IT. Who cares? Some people should just drop the attitude. Like i said before, i do it cause its fun and i love it. This whole thread should just stop, its a pointless argument with someone who is too ignorant to accept something.

thats tru dsc. but im just sayin that alot of guys pracitice on tracks all day, tracks are the only places that would have a competion. my cousins always like the mountains. so thats just what i learned while there.tracks are where they would get their name but a lot like the streets/mountains because its unpredictable know what i mean? but thats just my cousins and all their friends so ya

and i just wanted to say, bringin up my other posts that i would just much rather watch people in japan drift. i like their cars much more. i think that drifting in japan is just a lot bigger then it is here in america. and if it did start 3 decades ago or whatever then my bad but thats just what i thought.

ok Ace i see what you're saying about the "drifting" starting here in the US with outlaw sprinters and what not, but calling all the Japanese drivers in Option ricers? i mean seriously, drifting in Japan is pretty much all about having a good time, and yeah some of the drivers out there clown around alot, but i still feel that they deserve at least a little respect for their driving/tuning abilities.
LoL. What's wrong with rice?? Anyways, it was just an example that one might construe oval track racing as a bunch of idiots that can't turn right (actually, a lot of people do), and without knowing anything about that form of racing they'll shrug it off only picking out the worst parts of it. Likewise, someone newly exposed to an option magazine here might think that Japan is full of a bunch of rice burners, where someone from Japan watching TNN would think the USA is full of a bunch of hicks that race without having to turn right (except for out of the pits). I probably should have elaborated on that but then it would have just been rambling (as if this isn't rambling).

But seriously, what's so bad about rice? Does it get in YOUR way?? Some people like it, obviously. Just because you don't doesn't mean it's wrong or disrespectful, or are you one of those people that bashes on peeps because they use Macs (not saying you do, just bringing up another subjective example)?

haha nah im not a computer nerd :p

but when i think "rice" i usually think of people who really have nothing to do with motorsports activity and are all about trying to make their car LOOK fast and mad tyte y0!! liek the people who spend lots of money on custom interiors and underbody neon and big spoilers and think their car is a bad ass racer. i think most of the drifters in Japan are more about the performance. even though quite a few of them do sport the big ass spoilers and some funky body kits and tons of stickers, they back it up with good driving and the fact that they are on an option video means they are concerned with driving and not just looking fast. so yeah, to me "rice" would be a Hot Import Nights video, not Option.

Does anyone actually go drifting anyway? When I used to live in Hawaii I saw a lot of drifting and I went for a ride in some kid's turbo 240. And I met one Japanese kid at USF who brought his S13 from Japan and I believe he actually went drifting. But, other than that I don't think I've met or seen anyone who actually went drifting a lot/knew how to drift/could really call themselves drifters. I've only met kids who read about it in super street but can barely drive a stick and think they're cool. I would like to know how many people here actually drift. I've never done it. I've stuck the tail out a few times in my old 300 but I don't think that qualifies.

I just moved here from the Philippines, and i used to go drifting on dirt over there when i still had my truck. But now im tryin to do it on the pavement and its way harder than i thought but now i can do a feint and a kansei drift for now, im still tryin to learn the other styles, now that its winter break ill have more time to practice, its just that ill have to buy more tires for my 240 and it sux because they cost a lot!!!:)

If you wanna throw dirt track racing into the mix, something im familiar with, I'm game. True, they have been doing it since BEFORE pavement. But that doesnt mean the japanese drivers got all of what they learned from the guys racing dirt, drifting around dirt 3/8 1/4 tracks. You throw the car sideways before the apex in both. So it's not which style is better, it's who gets there the fastest with the cleanest run.

ill admit ive seen stock cars get sideways but rare and if they did its not full tilt going sidways.
You cant even talk about "nascar" here. The stock cars that drift, ar ehte ones on dirt. On saturday night. They go around a 1/4 mile track 90 in the corners and 120-130 on the streights.. That's sideways. On dirt, like on asphalt, it's a tool, and on dirt it's more important. I'm not trying to make it seem like everyone should love it, but it depends on people's taste. There is no other feeling like diving down under someone sideways...

i agree a lot of u people dont drift and jus say shit like "i was in the snow and slid the car" etc. ive heard about 3 reeeeeal drifters. thats why i speak highly of the japanese drifters instead of these american ricers

Yeah im with NSX and the guys on this one....the more i see the people who are drifting no adays and the more i see the people owning 240SX's ( not to point out any names by all means < no sarcasm > ) the more i dont want to own one....it seems like the only reason people want them is because of what they have heard or because its trendy....the more i see the PEOPLE who drift....the more i dont want to do it....its anoying to read thread after thread after thread of WHAT CAN I DO TO MY 240SX TO MAKE IT DRIFT or WHAT TECHNIQUES DO I USE TO DRIFT.....not to be a di** or anything but it gets old after a while of just hearing the same thing over and over....dont mean to direct this twords anyone onthe forum just saying. Ur right man....this did turn into a pissing thread.

in every forum i've posted on, all i hear is sh*t about aspiring drifters... seriously.. it seems to me that if some young dedicated person who seriously wants to learn how to drift comes up in here and asks a question or something about drifting they get shut down like some little punk ricer kid who drives there moms civic.... why cant you guys be patient with these poeple.. some of em are actually serious about the sport and are already taking steps to accomplish the task of learning how to drift.. please dont shut down these poeple buy discouraging them. its not nice. at least tell them to go do some research about drifting....

^ Wut he said

I'm not really hardcore into drifting or sumthin, but its fun to slide the car around. I dunno wut id call wut i do, but its fun so really wut other people think doesnt matter. I just got my car, i've had rwd for 2 weeks, and i take it out in the snow and slide it around, cause thats fun. Maybe its just me, but i think thats a good way to start learning, because u get to know how the car oversteers and understeers, etc at low speeds, and the chances of really fuking up ur car while sliding at such low speed is slim to none. It is easier to learn on slick roads cause u dont have to go as fast to drift, which lessens ur chance of damaging your car. You have to start sumwhere, we cant all come out and start drifting on dry pavement, it takes practice, and imo slick roads are a good place to start. I'd rather do this as well cause it saves my tires, i dont have money to buy new tires all the time, id rather save for better mods to my car. Anyways this is my opinion, and if people are trying to drift and have good questions then dont discourage them.

Ok...

I agree with these guys^
The US is also stuck on Drag, This is the most pointless shit to me, like NASCAR. Make alot of Power and go in a straight line for the shortest possable time.
You learn more about what an engine can do in an Endurance race. You learn the Balance of the car in a Track or Drift Session. You dont need alot of HP and a basic suspension is fine... That is why it is interesting to most people. Its new to the US, Its Fun, and doen't cost your College Fund.
Better Driving Skill is needed in the US, and if this what it takes... I am all for it.
Peace
Drew
