Let's cover the basics...
Stock T25
GReddy VSPL
GReddy Type S
Enjuku Hot pipe
Custom turbo inlet pipe with misc foam filter.
Ball&Spring boost controller (10psi)

She's been doing fine for a few months now with nothing out of the ordinary. I recently ran in a road race event and was able to knock all but 1 bolt out of my turbo elbow (holding it to the turbine). I replaced all 3 bolts and both nuts with new hardware (complete with threadlocker). I also put my 300zx front brakes on.

I took my car out on the highway and bedded in the pads. Then I was just messing around and took it up to about 128mph. After that...whenever I get into boost my turbo makes a considerably different "spooling" noise. Sounds much louder and deeper. It ALMOST sounds like a leak, but I'm just not sure. I haven't take too much time to look into it, but I removed the ball & spring boost controller to eliminate possibilities. Everything looks nice and tight and the car will hold 7psi of boost no problem. It almost sounds like something is caught in my inlet pipe.

Tomorrow I plan on pulling some pipes to investigate further, but just wanted to get some opinions on this. (FYI...no spooling problems, no problems holding boost, no smoke, no nothing...just this spooling noise)

Any ideas?

Yeah, hope its nothing serious... And if it is... TIME TO UPGRADE :thumbsup
That's a huge negative. I don't want an upgraded turbo...more stuff to buy, more things to go wrong, reliability goes straight to the shitter...I road race this car so I'm not worried about 11ty billion horsepower...I just want something nice and peppy that sticks to the ground like glue.

If this turbo is shot, I'd consider maybe a T28 at the most.

Well guys, turns out I found the front two nuts holding the turbo to the turbo manifold were missing. (woops!)

They must have slipped out while road racing a couple weekends back. All that racing really put a beating on my exhaust BIG TIME.

Once the motor cools, I'm going to replace the nuts and see what happens.

Yes lock washer would be good, and then there are thos metal tabs that fold down on the nut so that it can't spin.
