like it says, im buying a s13 (dont know the year yet.. going to find out today) for 1,500$. .. all I know is that it has a front bumper crack but like all of u guys im hoping 2 do a sr20det swap. so what should I look for? rust in certian areas? anything that u guys break alot thats imporants.. to .. not have broken haha. The common stuff and since u only have 1500 to buy the car I'm assuming you don't have another couple g's lying around to get the sr right now:
1. rust
2. frame damage
3. check engine lights (although its common figure out why its on)
4. suspension (check how the tires wore)
5. condition of engine bay i.e. fluid levles/cleaniness/check out the hoses, if it looks like utter shit assume thats the case of the components. Its not always true, but better safe than sorry.
Test drive:
1. turn the radio off if you tried it, listen for any unusual sounds especially while turning could indicate a bearing wore.
2. whining is probably water pump
3. watch where the car idles upon start up, than after driving it and resting at a stop light.
4. sniff for gas
5. look for super flat spots in accel
6. take car past 4k rpm in 5th gear and see if it shuts u down.
I'm picky, I've owned two rx7s haha. Anyways anyone add some more make fun of my list whatever have fun.

Listen for tapping/rattling coming from the head indicating that the timing chain guides are worn out.
Look at the strut bars to see that the bushings are busted and need replacement.
Look under the spoiler as it is most likely rusted. I'd recommend opening the hatch and removing the carpet cover to inspect how bad it is. To remove the cover, press in on the center of the little black clips, and once that piece goes in all the way, the entire clip comes out.
Check out all the vacuum lines and aiv for leaks.
Search the forum for other common things that break...

Also check window seals, and if it has a sunroof seal check for cracking from sun damage. Check to make sure headlight motors work fine.

i wouldnt pay that much for that car, id give him 800 max, i got mine for 100 bucks and just the engine was blown and some body work needed but i mean i would try to get him to lower it since the higher mileage than mine was (126k)

ok thanks very much for your quick responses! I will not buy it unless he drops down under 800$. Also I forgot to mention that it needs a new clutch. I couldnt drop it at 3000 rpm and have it grab.

drop the price a bit, get a new paint job and give the interior some tender loving care and it be awsome, and if it needs a new clutch, really talk him down.
edit; I just noticed something funny, in your video your spedometer goes to 115, but the one I was looking at only went to 110...
Only 110 I have seen was the one I looked at, pic below.

oh sorry, its not canadian car. Sorry, I was just trying to think of why it would be different. I just read somewhere that there were like canadian 240sx that were special for something. Maybe it was they all had LSD or something. Sorry for the confusion its 800$ american. The car in Yakima/Grandview WA. Tomarrow im going to offer him 600$. If he doesnt accept it then im not going to buy it. Im quite sure he is a drug dealer and he is trying to get out of town asap. Hehe. So maybe he will just take the money and run :0)
