What's a good compression test result for the KA24DE?

I'm looking at purchasing a 240SX, from the compression test he's getting 140 across all 4 cyls, is this low? too high? good or bad?

IIRC its around 179. thats pretty low, but if its consistant it could be the method used to test it. was the engine warm, and the throttle to the floor, when the engine was cranked, if not, then do it again.

140 is bad, that would be the "time to replace the engine" compression. Minimum according to the FSM is 155.

Thats bad but the warmer the engine is the more accurate your numbers will be. Make sure you don't burn yourself on the plugs though.

and try to avoid touching the heatshield. That thing is miiighty hot. I've enjoyed not burning myself repeatedly since I put my header on.

definately warm the car up first. and try adding a bit of oil to each cylinder and then test again. if the comp. increases, chances are the rings are shot. if its low and consistent across all the cyl's, the valvetrain doesnt like you anymore, or the gauge is just off.
