can anyone explain or point me to a page on how to adjust the clutch pedal? preferably in car newbie terms :)

ever since i replaced the whole clutch assembly (master/slave cylinders + all parts of clutch) the clutch has been engaging higher and higher up. someone told me that i need to adjust the pedal or something like that...HELP ME OUT!

ps: also i hear a very slight whirring noise that goes away WHEN I PRESS THE CLUTCH IN.

Well you can check out the 240sx.org FAQ section and look under clutch adjustment but it doesn't explain it very well if you don't know what to look for. I did mine little while ago and it isn't hard just a pain cause you can either adjust the cruise control stopper or you can adjust the pedal its self. If you want to adjust the pedal yourself it will take some time and some flexability. All you need to do is adjust the pedal its self by lying on your back and sliding under the dash with the flash light. When you find a way under the dash take the flash light and look for where the clutch connects to the master cylinder and once you have found it all you need to do is adjust that nut that connects to the pedal. I don't know if this helped or confused you more I have a hard time explaining this kind of stuff correctly..Stubby

This will move the clutch pedal and master to a point that you are comfortable with. This whole process will take you some time b/c you will adjust the car then try the clutch then adjust aging if needed and so on..Stubby

im not 100% sure how to adjust the clutch but i have a noise when the clutch is all the way out too but when i push it in it goes away...
if you find out how to fix this or what it is let me know that would be awesome and ill let you know if i find out too

my theory for the sound:

when you release the clutch, the pressure plate pushes the clutch to the flywheel in order to drive the car. if the engagement point is way high, the clutch may not be engaging fully so that noise you hear is the friction part of the clutch slipping on the flywheel...

someone tell me the faults in my theory plzzz :)

[edit] nissan_240_sx : does your clutch release high? if not, then my theory is wrong

i think thats what it is too and ya it kinda does release high and i think the previous owner of my car adjusted the clutch already cause my clutch doesnt release all the way up on its own theres about a half inch of play in it at the top....?!?!?!

so you're saying that it doesn't come all the way back up and stops 1/2 inch from the top? i dunno what that is, but it is supposed to have about 2-3 mm of movement before it actually engages, ex: you press it in 2-3 mm before the clutch releases.
