i still cant decide on what to put in when i get a s13. i know that the black top has 15 more hp off the bat BUT it is on an average $1200 more than the red top. and for me the 1200 is an issue.. but if you think about it to get the two engines the same hp you have to pay about the same amount of the difference in after market parts to get the two engines to equal power..so is the extra wait to get the money worth the Black top or should i just get teh red top...please help! :12dunno

search around for a cheaper price for the blacktops. trust me, if u inquire hard enough and LONG enough, ull find someone selling them with a smaller margin of cost difference than that 1200 with just as good of quality in the clip. plus the black tops are newer so in my opinion thats a plus. save a little, wait a little - get the blacktop.

If you are planning on doing modifications to the SR then go with the Red top. There is no point to go with the black top then. I mean if you were buying an SR to just drop in and drive then the black top would be the best. As it has more power and im sure that you woudl be happier with that.

I vote red top for modding, and black top for just drop in.

you know there are s13 black tops right?

s14 blacktops come with VVT which is a paint to deal with ive heard. like to tune and such..

just one more thing to go wrong i guess.

also if you get the s14blacktop then thats a hybrid swap

Call Jarco Inc (www.jarcoinc.com). They have great prices. They may or may not show an engine in stock, but just call them and they have A LOT of clips in stock in reality than what the site says.

Also, if you think it takes $1200 to boost your car by 15hp ... you are sadly wrong. Buy a boost controller and simply turn up the power.

i have been searchin, not to many sites ive seen with decent prices and ebay aint much better. and yea i kno there is a s13 black top too. true about the boost controller but im talkin exhaust, inatake, manifold ect. but that is true also. but i have also seen that stock sr20 is runnin about 7-8 psi and until you up grade head gasket and a few other things you shouldnt put the boost up to much. but that was one of my origional plans to just crank the boost way up. but for now im not to concerend about power i just want somethin more than the 140 or 50 that it has origionally. but im going for an all around performance/looks at first then start to put bigger turbo ect. hopefully ending up with like 350 hp. but thnx for your input and any one that has owned both or still does, give me some pros and cons? thnx

You don't need to get a headgasket right away unless you are planning on running boost higher than 15psi.

BTW Have u considered going KA-T

Stroll thru the wanted and for sale section of the forum. There were some recent posts about motors and clips for sale. If anything just ask a few questions. You may come across a decent person with a decent motor for a decent price - who knows
