hi. im new to this forum. my rb25det motor is coming in by december and i was planning on changing the turbo out and throwing in a turbo thats pretty much a bolt on. i hear the rb25det has t25 turbo then i hear that it has t3/to4e turbo? im guessing that it has a t3 but i need to make sure its correct. also if i was to buy a turbo that says t3/to4e is it likely that i will have to do custom turbo elbow? thanks.

Only some t28 turbo's fit. If it comes from another rb25, then it will fit. The z31 single turgo is an upgrade, mainly because it has a steel exhaust wheel and can run higher boost. The series 1 rb25(one with ignitor chip on valve cover) has a ceramic wheel, and the series 2(no ignitor chip, is done by the ecu and coil packs alone) has a plastic wheel. The stock t28 turbo is good for only about 14 psi, but my friend blew up his series 2 on like 15 psi, so watch out. Anything with a t3 exhaust, aka t3 or t3/t4 will bolt right up. I hear the t28 and even t3 with a .48 ar will choke the rb25det. It wants something bigger. Go with a t3/t4 50+ trim. Not sure on the z31 turbo, but all others except stock will need a custom elbow. The stock turbo is internally gated, as is the z31 and most t3's. This means direct bolt up with ease. Most t3/t4's need an external gate, so there will be more work to be done there.

when you say t3/t4 its different from t3/t04e right? also would the t3/t04e bolt up like the t3/t4? i was thinking of getting the t3/to4e with 57 trim .54 a/r comp and .63 a/r turbine. also there was a garret gt28r dual ball bearing i was thinking about, would this fit on the exhaust manifold?

okay. if i was to get a turbo upgrade i know i have to get a custom dump pipe/turbo elbow and whatever else people calls it. where would i have to go to get this customized? or would i have to customize it myself? this is the only trouble i have when getting the turbo upgraded. and how much would it cost? thanks.

Actually the turbo is not a T28. It is not made by Garrett it is actually made by Hatachi. It has a T3 turbine flange, so you can use any T3 turbo hybrid on it. It uses a water-cooled core with a roller bearing (not ball bearing), ceramic turbine and lightweight compressor. It has a 60mm compressor inlet and a 38mm discharge nozzle and the compressor housing is identified with a 0.40 A/R. On the exhaust side, the turbine inlet passage is 65 x 45mm and the mounting flange measures 110 x 70mm. This turbo has been taken up to 335HP. The only problem with the stock turbo is that the ceramic wheel is very weak and once brought up past 10psi there is no garentees how long it will last. Had a friend with 30k on his turbo and he turned it to 11psi and in a matter of a month the turbine wheel shot out the exhaust.
