Whever I pull the lever, the trunk flies open really hard and it is annoying me. Is there any way to make it so it just pops up a little bit so I can lift it when I get back there? It used to have a spoiler, so the removal of the weight may have something to do with it. Thanks in advance!

It's not the weight, I have no spoiler and no problem.
Are the hydralic arms the original? Maybe they're something the owner before you replaced...and they're too large? Or need to be adjusted?
That's the only thing that I can think of.
I wish mine popped open, lol...maybe my arms are wore out...

Add one more to the list of people who have to use their key to open hatch. My problem is I think their is to much play in the release cable. Trying to figure out how to take up some slack.

is it a hatchback or coupe? if its a hatchback, i recommend replacing the hatch struts that lift the trunk with some new ones. you can get them anywhere, pep boys, autozone, any of those places would most likely carry them.

i am not familiar with the coupe model. i know when my mom had her 94 corolla it had no struts on the trunk so it would spring open quickly and even have a short rebound from going up so fast. now my mom has a 04 mazda6 with two struts on each side and you almost have to push it up because it doesn't go up too far when you pop open the trunk. if you could figure out a way to fabricate some brackets to hold two struts (the kind used on the hatch of a gti or any kind hatchback) it would slow down the lifting of the trunk significantly. but i am sure there is an easier way out there.

same here. my key doesn't open it either. driver's side lock doesn't work from the outside as well. oh well, things to fix :eek3dance

There are two ways to get my hatch open: Use the key from the rear, or hold up the lever in the cockpit while someone opens it from the rear ... I think just getting some new hydraulic struts would fix the problem, though.

WRONG

the weight has a lot to do with it. look in you FSM if you have the PDF that was online for download. look at page BF-8 there is a torsion bar under the "rear dash". it was set up for the weight of the trunk with the spoiler. now that it's not there it's set too strong. you will have to "bend" that bar to set it for the lighter weight.

Well I get that (and have the PDF to share, bandwidth soon too), but I don't have a spoiler and my pops open just fine. Not too fast, not slow...lol, I don't get how it affects it...but I've got a coupe. Hehe!! :thumbsup
But thanks for the correction! I feel bad when I provide bad info.

I'll post the diagram for people to see if they don't have the FSM....

It IS the weight thats making it go up so fast. Mine was fine until i took off the spoiler. All you need is different hydro arms and it should work fine. I dont know what arms will fit but its not really bothering me enough to do something about it

drift_dyna i think you little brother is on your PC. might want to learn how to "lock" it to keep the tards off it.
Yeah, he uses it for homework since he destroyed his...240sxforums.com is my homepage as well, so who knows what he writes, when I had a CRX I stopped looking back to see what was written and just go with it now, it's easier, lol. It's better not to "make excuses"... :12dunno

...concerning the weight and hydro-arms, can't you adjust the arms?? I'm pretty sure there's an adjustable point on them.
