We all know that this subject has been beaten to the ground regarding KA vs SR... but before you tell me to search, read up on my situation here and give me any iput you can that you think may help me in my decision making process.

Alright, at the moment I am the proud owner of a 1992 S13 HB (RMS13) that is quite clean, and runs very well with 167k on the clock. I also have the great honor to own a Mitsubishi Evolution VIII, but due to the recent passing of my father and my mounting school bills, I have decided to sell it in order to invest a large sum in hopes to turn a profit by the time I am done with my schooling.

Because I am getting rid of my Evo, I have had a hole in heart due to the loss of looks and speed that the Evo offered me on a Daily driven basis. To replace the Evo and seam the hole in my soul, I am looking to either do an SR swap with some goodies involved, or do a full KA Turbo build up. I am just having the darndest time trying to weigh out which will be the better choice for me.

I will be daily driving my S13 upwards of 15-20k over the coming 2 years (not driving it in the winter once it is Boosted.... I think ) and plan on upgrading continuously until it is up to my standards of looks and performance.

Since money really isnt an issue for me concerning the swap (although I want to keep it around $2500 or so) what do you think will be the better option for me in the long run?

- A full front silvia clip + basic upgrades
-SR motorset + relatively major upgrades
-Full KA Turbo build

My goal for the car is to have a reliable, smooth, completely driveable 300whp/wtq with 93 octane.

What would you do if you were me, and why?

Your situation doesnt mean you shouldnt search and decide for yourself
If your "torn" find something else to do, because you are clearly not passionate about either.

I am only passionate about getting positive manifold pressure in my S13.... not about how I go about doing so.

I postetd in hopes to hear some peoples gripes/positives about each option in hopes to ease my choices....

You boostin your Stock KA?

i personally would go the sr, because i love that motor but with the money that you said i would get a motorset and some really nice parts with it, as long as you know what your doing i have to get a whole front clip cause im a noobie.

well this is what im about to do i have a 1989 240 fast back and i might get a 91 fast back and since the 91 is a dohc ka24det if i get it i will turbo it. But if i stay with the 89 i will just go with a silvia front clip and go all out with a red top and a conversion. I have to have a certain state of mind when you do things to your car search around and see what everyone else is doing to there car and hit up some shows see what is really going on with peoples rides. Let me tell you like this KA24det is a strong engine with the same stock boost as a sr i think it makes more power then a sr, with 4000 you can make your sr have over 300hp just look here http://boostevolution.com/turbokits2.htm.

If you wanted reliabilty in your turbo motor, I'd go with the SR. I love the KA-T but the SR was turbo from the factory and "should" give you less headaches and downtime than a custom setup. I can't imagine you'd have time to deal with it while you are in school.

sr is cheaper. go that route.

the biggest problem with ka not being factory turbo'd is it doesnt have the fuel system for it. You could slap a turbo on your ka, (if its a strong motor) with a good fuel tuning you'd have a damn fine reliable motor. too many people boost stock motors reliably to say otherwise. But turboing a stock ka "right" , even without rebuilding the motor itself would probably cost more then a half cut. Nubs want to turbo the ka cause they think it'd be cheaper. Then some attemp to do a cheap turbo job and blow their motor and give it a bad name,

with watt you have to work with, and old KA that would need a rebuild and only 2.5K your not going to make 300hp. if you take the SR route i doubt you will be making 300hp with the price of the swap and all. the only route that yo umight get close to 300hp and a smooth DD is with a KA. dont forget your suspension also. i wouldnt want to drive a car with 300hp and stock suspension.

the best route for you i think is to find an low miles ka24de ($400-$700) then with the rest turbo it and if you have any $$ left over spend it on suspension. 300hp is alot for 2.5K if you where to lower your HP goal to around 250hp you can leave the internals on the KA stock.

notice that every one who said get an SR eather has less than 10 posts or is a personal preferance.

eather way dont forget your suspension.
good luck

just find a blown ka most people just give them away and just build that . thats what i should done but i bought a sr it costs a boat load of cash and time but mine should put over 400 to the wheels. last thing the omly problem with the ka is the aftermarket is not as big as the sr

As a daily driver? Go KA all the way if for no other reason other than its legal! RWD SR20's are not legal for use on public highways on a pollution controlled vehicle. 15-20k miles though, I would suggest a rebuild, 300 hp on a stock internal KA low mileage or not. Some people get lucky, but when you have to rely on luck...thats when you find yourself most unlucky!

Congratulations.

Because of your whoring every singly KA vs. SR thread, you have managed to resurrect a thread that's 4 years old.

Please stop it.
