*muffler opinions* last page

so i always see a ton of cheap mufflers on ebay, now my question is if i were to get a custom exhaust made for my car would it be bad to use one of those mufflers? is it really worth it to pay the money for an authentic apex or whatever brand muffler? how do they differ? is it just materials, or is sound gonna be way different, or performance? also i was thinking i could just use my stock muffler and have 3 inch piping put on it for a real sleeper look. What do you guys think?

Not all of the ebay mufflers are bad.

I would go with N1 universal mufflers, but they are like 200 a piece. Megan Mufflers are also pretty good for the price. They are we made and N1 tyoe atleast to me sounds good> (i have their 3"in Megan Catback)

What every you do don't modify the stock muffler, it will sound like shit.
Just choose a stockish looking megan muffler

I have one of those EBay knock off Apexi N1 mufflers and it sounds fine. I'd prefer having the real one, but eh w/e. If you want a sleeper look then go with a Magnaflow. Stay away from Dynomax, the shop that did my muffler sells them and the guy was like "just go buy a muffler from somewhere else because these suck!"

I have a Megan muffler and the greddy down pipe. Brought all this to MIDAS and they hooked me up better than ordering a muffler system that sounds awsome but fits so so. Everything was tucked close to the car and my tip is on the way I want it to be installed. And scew the test pipe for 50 bucks. I think it was one 8 foot piece of 3 1/4 pipe and 5 welds (including all my factory hangers) and 4 or 5 slight bends. 75 dollars for Midas's work. Can't beat it. later

well i really like this style of muffler....
http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopexd.asp?zone=main&id=761

but the inlet is only 2.25" and all the 3" inlet ones are single can style...i dont want that. Would it be easy enough for the shop to drop the 2.25" inlet and put 3" on it, or is the actual inside of the muffler different then the ones with a 3" inlet

ive looked at the big names....they dont appeal to me. Ive seen the n1 duals in person on a car and think they look like shit. The cans are HUGE. I do love the look of the trust dd tho, but it is soo incredibly loud. So this exhaust on ebay is really what im looking for. I was just hoping i could find a similar dual tip muffler with 3" inlet and do it myself but as you can see im not having very good luck.

I had an ebay n1 style muffler on my old '89 nissan pickup i was fixing up before a full grown dear at 50mph ruined those plans... anyway, it sounded awsome (if not a bit too loud) and worked great. much better then the stock muffler (obviously). it was only ike 50$ with shipping. the guy i bought my 240 from installed the HKS superdrag catback exhuast on before i bought the car. it sounds awsome but the can is FUCKING HUGE. it just screams "RICE!!11" so i think i might acctually take my old ebay muffler to midas and have them stick it on the end of the HKS piping for the time being, untill i can afoord the real N1's. moral of the story: ebay can be cool if you want something decent and cheep. besides, it buys u time to save for the good stuff!
-cheers-

how hard is it to find a subtle dual tip exhaust muffler with a 3" inlet.....i checked borla out, very nice stuff...no dual exhaust with 3" inlet, only 2 1/4".....maybe im going about this all wrong...do i absolutely have to have 3" exhaust? i have a sr20det, and ive always heard when turbo 3" is the way to go...is this a neccesity? would the 3" outperform the 2 1/2" by a big enough margin that its worth it to spend the $600 so i can get my ideal exhaust as opposed to a several hundred dollar exhaust which is the same but only 2 1/2"?

I don't think half an inch will really make that big of a difference. If anything it will louder, and since you live in SoCal (aka ricer heaven) ... then I am gonna guess the cops hate loud exhausts.

You might want to look into the HKS Hi-Power seriously ... they have multiple sizes for it and it is a REALLY quiet system until your revs get really high. From a stand still, it is not loud, from a launch, it is not loud (until rpms get higher than about 5 grand) ...
