I see alot of people with the CF hoods and all, but is it really worth it?

the reason I ask is because this guy I know at my school has an OEM looking USDM s13 CF hood that he will sell to me for like 370 or 360ish, and he lives maybe 5 minutes away.

reason being he just did a s13 front end conversion on it so he doesnt need the hood,

its a pretty good deal since I see alot of CF hoods for pop ups for around 350-400.

but how much of a difference is the weight compared to stock hood, and does it really REALLY lighten your car?

I normally wouldn't consider it, but my car is black, so it blends right in, which is what I like.

I know its flexible being CF so I wouldn't paint it because it would flake off.

I'm not sure if it has hood pins with it installed or at all, but I'd definitly get hood pins.

but I know CF is very strong in tensil strength, but I heard it is very brittle, so if I was to hit something front on, it would just shatter and splinter.

anyone got any experience and etc with it? and hood pins?

I may buy it if I can get it for like 300-330 bucks.

i think the stock hoods weight 30-40 i cant remember the exact number, but my friend cf hood weights maybe 12 lbs its ALOT lighter than mine.

It will ne a hp gain of 0 however haveing a lighter car is one of the easyest ways to lower your time on the track back when my 240 was stock since I ahd no money to afford things cause I jsut bought the car I did some major weight reduction and I ran a bit faster of course now that I do money turbo time yah!!!!

figured that much, but I'm not making mine a track car.

I think I may just pass on it.

EDIT: well what I ment by 1-2hp was theroetical HP, I know that it wont add to engine power, but the lighter the car the faster it will move with less power sort of thing.

I'd say bite. As long as it's a stock looking OEM carbon replacement hood, not a fan of those Invader hoods with the crazy ass scoops. If not for the weight reduction then for the look. I don't mind the CF look. Up to you though my friend.

I am getting a cf hood for my car. But I am also getting it because my hood is pretty bent up and instead of paying 40 bucks at a junkyard for an old used hood and then 50 to have it primed and repainted it would be much more logical for me to get a cf hood. Right now though it's a matter of determining which brand to get since I hear VIS hoods have terrible fitment and the only other company I know making them is carbon creations, but they want over $500.

i have a vis hood, and have a few friends with them. all had perfect fittment. ive also been well over 100mph with no hoodpins, and theres no problems.

just slapped mine on, even did it by myself. i had to adjust the latch a tiny bit so it would close smooth, without having to push down hard. there is a little more gap behind the headlights than stock, but its the same on both sides, so it looks ok.

it looks OEM and its not an invader, but I can't remember what it was.

30-40 lbs is heaven if you're doing alot of weight reduction, but since all you got is about 30 lbs going for you, it's not gonna mean a shiat. if you like the look buy it, if not save the money.

i would buy it for if you could get it for about 300-325 or so. if it is in really good condition get it if you like it for looks but if your trying to save up for ka-t then i might put that mullla into that fund instead. just my 2 cents
