looks like the only way to have the sr20... is to move to alabama. I'm just giving you hell don't mind me. I'm extremly glad i don't have to deal w/ such crap. I don't know of anyone who has ever had to go in for a smog test. that even counts numerous street racers who have had there cars impounded. Crazy.

CRZY_AZN is totally correct. Honda guys can totaly sneek a JDM GSR motor into US and pass smog without a problem. My bro's Supra Just had a JDM 7MGTE motor installed a month ago and passed smog without a problem.

yes but your friend with the 7mgte is legal...the 7mgte was released in a USDM car...the 86.5-92 supra....so it is legal.

no because your logic doesnt make sense....the ca18det wasnt released in the US a extremely similar version was HOWEVER it wasnt the same...the 7mgte WAS released in Japan AND the U.S. it is the same motor, making it legal...again the sr20det was NEVER released in the US, the sr20de is different.

SR20DET was never released in the states thats why its illegal. we only got the NA versions in the sentra and NX. Yes SRs can pass the sniffer, ive seen it happen. Not mine tho, 3" all the way back with no cat *screw the tree hugging hippies* Cali cant touch my car tho since its registered out of state. One of the perks of being in the military. But yah as far as i know, it would be easier to find somebody to *test* you than to actually try passing it. Nox level kills the SR all the time.

And yes its illegal in any state since its EPA and DOT that says it illegal. Like everybody says, it was never released in the states and engines are approved. US emissions and japanese emissions are completely different. Theres no such thing as OBDI or OBDII in japan.

Not exactly, If swaped in another USDM 7MGTE it would be completely legal as long as the engine was a 91 or newer(he has a 91 supra).

Swaping in a JDM 7MGTE is not legal becuase it is from another country and does not have the epa and smog equipment on it like the USDM motor, but we put some of it back and nobody can tell it was a JDM motor. If they knew it was we he probably would pass smog.

you can swap in a a JDM 7mgte *sigh*....believe me...you can....since the motor was released in the US also it has passed our regulations...a JDM 7mgte can be put in a US car as long as the proper rules are followed...It doesnt matter that its from another country, BECAUSE the exact same motor was released in the states, see what im saying?
