Ok, newbie to 240sx, but got questions..

I am very interested in a 240sx. I found one across the street from my work, that the guy is selling for 3500. It's a 96 240sx se model..what does the se model all come with? What are good first upgrades for this ride? I also am obsessed with the kouki front end, so where can I find all the parts for it? I am also obsessed with turbos. I helped install a larger sc61 turbo on my buddie's car..an integra, that now makes just over 500 whp, and runs the quarter in low 10's. Anyways, What psi can a stock ka24 motor run at, and what kidna power are we looking at? Anything else I should know about these cars..known problems or anything like that? lemme know..thanks, and nice to meet ya'll. I am from minnesota, so if anyone want's to meet up, that would be cool. I work as a mechanic, and I am not new to the tuning scene..just new with this car. ttyl..

swifty.. Sounds like the car is a good deal, check for rust. Also you might want to do some searching on the questions you have, because I am sure that some one will flame you for the questions.
By the way welcome to the forums.

Thanks bro..as far as I can tell, when I drive past it at work, there is no rust..their might be 2 small dents, that I could get out, but it looks to be in good condition. It also kinda looks lowered, but I dunno. I don't even know if it's auto or manual..another biggie for me, cause I will never buy an auto..as far as the flaming..I can take it. I really don't care what anyone says or thinks of me, so it doesn't matter. I suggest, that if someone wants to flame..keep it in, cause I came for help, and answeres, not someone's whining, and bs.

Oh, also..aren't the 95-96 same as the 97-98? Like..won't a 97-98 bodykit fit the 95-96? I figure if I am already gonna upgrade the front to a kouki, then y not go all out? How wide, are wide fender flares? Anyone have pics with them? I am wondering if this is worth it, or not..I also wanna know about lsd, and what I can do..I HATE one-wheel wonders, so any ideas? What is the headlight bulb size? I bought hids, and I wanna know if they will fit, or if I should sell it, and get a new kit..I think that's it..for now..

A fellow minnesotan! yes indeedy, it is rather hard. It will be super cool driving a 240 wit the kouki front end..I hope to paint it that really cool orange, with the signal graphics, like the signalauto s15's. Anyway, I noticed your h22..hehe..what car did you pop that into? I was gonna go for that motor in my accord, but instead..I will turbo it soon, if this deal falls through. I just hope to high-hell it's manual..lol...

the h22 is in my 94 accord coupe

Sounds like a fairly good deal. Don't buy it before you check all the big stuff out b/c you said you just drive by it... For all you know it may not run. For many of those questions you could have used the search button. But I'm going to help you out. You can piece together a full kouki front end at www.raceonusa.com . Thats what i'm having to do now since i reareneded someone in my 98.

if it is an auto, swap an s14 sr20 engine/tranny, or rb25 if you have the money and really know about cars. kouki conversion can be quite expensive also, and for an lsd, i think most go with a j30 lsd (cheap an plentiful) but the 240 shares so many parts from so many wonderful cars that there is no better light compact tuner car out there imo. if you want to convert it, you might as well do s15 for a little more money and work unless you got the hookup with used kouki parts. i just plan on buying a kouki.

you definitely want an se model for the antilock brakes and 5lug wheels. also, other added options are nice for a dd imo, there arent any dumb options on the 240s like the electronically controlled suspension on the 3000gt sl's that adds a ton of weight and is pretty much completely ridiculous (i have a 3000gt base, btw, lightest model year too).

anyways, i would get it and either swap the engine out or if you want to get crazy just go ahead and build it and boost it (and dont forget to at least cryotreat the tranny or whatever for serious hp)

Well, I know he drive's it daily, so it must run pretty well..this guy is from kenya, and he recently moved here, so he's not a big smarty in terms of cars..saidso himself. Anyway, a j30..isn't that off of a 300zx? where might I get one of those? We really don't have too many junkyards around here, and i've NEVER seen a 300 zx around. I want to boost the current motor, with fuel upgrades n such..fuel management, etc..what psi, and power am i looking at? IF I ever got enough money, I'd buy a sr20, and build it, wit a toda 2.2 stroker kit, and a block spacer, n boost the hell outta it..but, till then..I gotta feed my boost addiction. Thanks for the help guys!

A j30 is a fwd infiniti sedan. There everywhere. If you don't care either way I'd suggest just building the KA. It's a very capable motor, i don't think i'll get to much shit for that, and I personally think it's just as good as the sr20, i know i'll get shit for that. I'm going for the sr20 but i want that exotic feel of a japanesse motor, if you just want power don't bother. The fact that it say se really means nothing. I own a 97 kouki se w/ a lsd and 5-lug. I've seen them w/ abs, lsd, and 5-lud. I've also seen 4-lugs w/ nothing. Make sure it's a 5-lug. Check for a lsd. Just jack the car and spin the wheels. I've owned mine for about 6 months and i love it. For the money it more fun than anything on the road.

A J30 is a RWD Infiniti sedan.
FWD cars have the differential in the transmission.

lol, that's why I was suprised when you said that the j30 would work. Anyways, I did not buy the hid kit for the s14. I bought it for my accord, recently. So, it's new. I am trying to figure out if the bulb sizes are the same, or if I will need to buy another kit. What are the bulb sizes for the s14?
