I will be fabing a dual exhaust for my S13, and have a question for anyone who knows more about exhaust than I do.

I will be running a 3" pipe and breaking it into 2- 2.5" or 2.25" pipes that go to the mufflers. The mufflers have 2.25" inlet. The question is, should I break it into 2 pipes earlier on (right after cat like Apex Dual N1), or does this not really matter and can I break it up closer to the muffler.

The second choice would require less time and material cost, so that would be the best but I want to do it right the first time.

Thanks for your input.

It's funny my buddy was talking to me about a dual exhaust setup on my car a while back if I was to go turbo on it just to see how it would look/perform. I am interested to see how it will look, and too bad you're on an RB would be neat to see how it'd perform on the KA, SR, or CA. The KA and SR more so than the CA do to the CA being a smaller engine.

wont the gas tank be int he way?
Yeah- I'm going to have to re-shape it which will lead to less tank volume, but oh well.

And for all of you who wonder why I am doing it, it's because I want to put Remus mufflers on. The same company outsourced for OEM Ferrari, Porsche, BMW, ect., so it will sound awesome on an inline six. The only problem is they universal muffler only comes in 2.25" inlet (and only good for about 220 or so HP) so I have to put dual. Here's what one of them looks like...

I made pics of what I was talking about so you can visualize. Anyone know which one would be better? I know the RB20 needs some backpressure to maintane midrange power, so I'm gravitating toward the second one but it will be more work.

Any advice is appreciated.

I will be making some sort of exits out of the bumper of my body kit, when I get it. For now I will cut out an identical sized notch out of the other side of stock bumper.

I guess my explaination wasn't clear enough for those of you who don't understand why I'm doing it. I want Remus sound, and dual exhaust is the only way to get it. I'm not going for all-out-power. I don't like the sound of coffee cans (no offense). If you want to hear what it sounds like, go here. Click on "Sounds" at the bottom left. Maybe you guys will understand now...

couldn't you start even earlier at the header, and have three cylinders dump to one pipe and three to the other? isn't that what true dual is?

^Nope. Single turbo=single exhaust. And why would I put myself through that much trouble anyway? I just wanted to know the benifits of doing it one of the two ways I asked, but no one seems to be answering that! Just a bunch of opinions on what I didn't even ask in the first place.

This is probably what it will end up looking like, unless I can find a rear bumper that doesn't have that nasty backwards lip.

if its just for looks why not just mount a copy muffler to it? :D
Like I said, the inlet on one of the mufflers is 2.25". This is not adequate enough for a turbo car, so I have to run true daul. This means it is obviously not just for looks.
