Just wondering what different people have to say about gutting, or perhaps just making a small hole through the stock cat. converter on my 95 for a free mod.

I don't have emissions test where I live so that doesn't matter. I would really like the car to sound alittle louder. I don't it to sound bad though that would suck. It sounds so nice right now with the AEM intake.

I've heard it might make it stick and sound raspy? But I'd like to get more peoples opinions.

Are you running a turbo? If not i would say to leave it alone. If so then rip that thing right off. Make sure you jump on it a few time while its on the ground. Also take the time to burn it. Thats the most important part of this tuning method.

Yeah if your NA then I would keep it for the back pressure, KA's love thier back pressure.
didn't we already have a big discussion on backpressure before?
you dont want backpressure, you want scavenging.

i have read that a small amount of backpressure is required to reduce turbulance which inturn keeps the backpressure low.

someone correct me if i'm wrong

ive ran with cat and gutted cat and there wasnt a whole lot of power difference. What is cool once the cat is gutted you can shoot small flames out the exhaust at times. I miss that. From what my dad said, backpressure gives the car a good idle but is bad for performance, you want exhaust velocity for better power gains. My dad could be wrong about the whole backpressure and idle statement. Gutting the cat doesnt do much of anything unless turbo. Mostly flames and exhaust poppage w/ a little backfire at times.
