With my current mods the car is still running at 7 psi with no spiking. Ive been told the motor should be running closer to 10psi with the 3in downpipe, test pipe, and catback. Ive also heard that there is a stock boost controller on the car. Can someone post a picture where its at?

if you wanna go the cheap way just get a Turbo XS single stage boost controoler.. for like a 100...

the Dual Stage TruboXS is pretty cool, allows you to run 2 differnt boost settings.. like 7psi, and 10 psi with the flick of a switch...

you could make one out of some crap from like home depoit
but i for got what it was.. like a fish tank air vavle...

alot of time you dont get the stock boost controller..

my friend knows how to make a ball and spring type MBC for $12. He used to use it on his 300ZX and his friends DSM's. He told me it held boost at 21psi without spiking. Im gonna use that and hopefully hes right about the not spiking or its coming off. Would i be ok to run 12psi with my mods. I still have the sidemount but i have a large hole in my bumper for cool air.

the factory boost controller is a little green box with a knob on it. there should be a vacum line running from a tit on the cold pipe to the boost controller and then from there to the wastegate.

My friend's car had stock down pipe, intake, exhaust, etc.
He upgraded his down pipe, stright pipie exhaust, catback exhaust, intake, fuel pump. and the stock boost turned into 10psi.
Thats what i was expecting with mine but the boost stayed at 7psi. Ill just use a boost controller to up it to 12psi.

Theres a stock boost controller? Thats news to me...

listen to him ^, you can add all the mods you want, fmic, exhaust, intake, and unless you change it yourself the wastegate stays the same and opens at the same time it did before.

!
OOH

DAMN i had no idea what that was so i got rid of it assuming it was part of charcoal canister or some other emission BS. HRmm if it goes from cold pipe to OEM boost controller to waste gate.. sounds like it works the same as any boost controller. How does that raise the boost by putting an ehxuast on?

How well does this stock boost controller work? i may still have it.

I dont have my vaccuum line from the wastegate hooked to the cold pipe. It runs from the Wastegate to the Intake manifold. I did it this way so i can read vaccuum with my boost gauge. Is this wrong? Whats the purpose to have the vaccuum line go to the cold pipe?

that's fine.
the stock boost sesnor isn't to control boost. It's for reading boost.
how do you think the wastegate opens at 5 and 7 psi? if it were just a boost sensor there would be no reason for a line to run to the actuator and its labled in the FSM as a boost controller.

the reason you want it on the cold pipe is because its closer to the wastegate actuator. if you put it on the throttle body your more prone to spikes cause the source is farther away. at 7psi and a stock turbo this really doesnt matter, but if you get into higher boost levels and bigger turbos it can cause problems. if you put the factory boost controller on the motor you can add bleeder valves and actuators and not have spikes like you normally would.

Yeah it will only go up if the factory boost control is in. Otherwie it just relies totally on the wastegate acutator which from factory is always 7psi.

mine went up to around 8-9psi after those mods and i dont have the factory boost controller or whatever its called installed. if the factory wastegate spring is set at 7 psi than those mods shouldnt change anything.

my guess is that removing all the restrictiveness of the exhaust/intake changes the way the boost is created enough that it will allow you to build and extra few psi. i have no evidence to support what i just said but its the only way i can explain it. now that i read over it i still dont know how a wastegate set at 7psi would contantly build 8 or 9psi after those mods.

i ran my wastegate straight to a nipple i welded onto my hotpipe.

i ran my bov from a vacuum source on my throttlebody

i ran my boost gauge by t-ing off my fuel pressure regulator

i know some people say that the fpr should have a dedicated vacuum line. i guess i could have ran the gauge by t-ing off the bov vacuum source???
