I know exactly what these threads are for, people who can't do their own research.

BTW, opinions win races.
True story.

and if you want my opinion, I like the sr better than the ca (simply for the displacement) and I like the ka more than the sr (boosted designs sells a built longblock for 2 grand) but as long as you put a turbo on your car, with either engine, you will be pleased.

well i can say ive done plenty of research. not so much on the ca ill admit. and thats why im here. forums are just another way of finding out the "scoop" on things like this. and by labeling people as "trolls" and making them feel inadequate enough to leave the forum, your only limiting a persons knowledge on such topics. and i dont think thats very right. or fair.

btw. if all you guys get on this thing and read all this everyday. you should look into getting out more.

and i dont think youll be that lucky either. but youll learn to love me.

Do I look new here or some thing? I know why I'm here and what I'm doing, it's you who's looking north and pointing west at the moment. Why don't you go ahead and break it down for me then "Mr. I have done my research" and tell me some differences between the motors you are currently picking from.

Hurry up now, I grrabbed a beer and I'm ready to learn some thing.

no you dont look new at all. i never suggested that. and i dont doubt you know what your doing. thats why im posting topics. to hear what people that "know what their doing" have to say in response to my questions. i just wanted some casual conversation about motors so i can decide which i would like to put in my car. and what is it to you if i have or haven't done my research? are you the president of the "sr has more displacement than ca" club?

and im sorry i just joined this forum. if i could change the past i would have joined yyyears ago.

Drift, I don't want you to get mad at me, but listen for a minute...............

I havent been on here for too long of a time but i have seen so many people posting debates over building a KA-t or swaping in an sr, ca, rb and so on. I think the problem with most people is that they really cant think for themselves. I mean ivan, duy and all them the reason they are building the ka's arent because someone on some thread told them to do so because its better than the sr or so on. They are doing it because they want to be different. If this is your first time really working on a car its kinda pointless to get on here and ask people which is better because you yourself dont even know if you could build or swap something with your level of knowledge. Like ive seen countless amount of times when people ask which is better they usually get told to do research. That is the truest (i know its not a word) statement i have ever heard. I grew up around cars and i originally started out as a chevy guy, but wanting to be different i decided to go import and build a honda. I like alot of people got the b16 screwd in the ass set up. From there i learned that jumping on the band wagon can sometimes be bad. And that it would be better for me to just research what i want to do and how i want to do it and what i felt comfortable doing. For all you newbies out there and other people, its ok to ask questions about motors or stuff like that but dont come on here and ask which is better. Its pointless. I mean damn think for yourself once in a while and decide what you want to do with your own brain. I mean damn if you wanna build twin cylinder lawn mower engine for your 240 then do so and do it well and take pride in what you did. Well i hope alot of you people read this and take heed in what i am saying because without people thinking for them selves and wanting to be different then we would probably have never gotten to where we are in the automobile industry today.
The reason people so often say do your research isn't because they don't like to talk about engines, it's so that we can talk with you on a higher level about engines. If you got any specific type of questions I don't think any one would hesitate to get into it with you and help you get through them.

What was the question again? :heyhey :thumbsup

haha. im straight man. no hard feelings

this is my second 240 after i wrecked my first one. [you might have seen in my previous avatar] and i really wanna do something with it. its still my daily driver so im not looking for "the fastest car ever" just a step or 2 from now. my question was the ca or sr. and for what reasons. ive been researching these motors since i got my first one over a year ago. i know i dont know everything, but i guess you gotta start somewhere.

thanks for being somewhat understanding btw. appreciated

yea im pretty stuck on doin the ca.

any suggestions on like "first things first" i.e. rebuild, replacements, tune ups, etc.
rebuild takes the cheap out of ca. If you want to rebuild, just get some pistons, shot peen your rods, arp head studs, cometic head gasket and go nuts with your ka

CA18DET has weak bigends, believe me, here in europe 9 out of 10 CA18's will get big-end problems when they are over 100.000km's!

SR Gives more power in the lower rev's, and the CA18 is more rev happy.

Both are very good engines when taken good care of... i'm driving a CA18DET S13 myself, and when my engine would die (And if i have the funds available) i'd do a sr20 swap.

CA18 is a great engine none the less, it sounds and runs great. The SR20 is just a newer engine...

seriously, are they just allowed so you guys can flame the thread starters or what? I am really asking because I don't see the point...........

I could leave a technical response but would it even matter, all he knows is he wants to put some letters called "ca" or "sr" under his hood.

Rods are shot-peened from the factory. Only real weak point in the CA bottom end are the cast pistons. I am in the middle of a rebuild. I am doing it once, and doing it right. Every single gasket, seal, accessory that can be replaced, is being replaced. Overkill? ...maybe. Good insurance? ...yes. I'd rather do it all now and get it out of the way rather than drive 50 miles down the road and hear some nasty rod knock, or find the rear main seal leaking like a bitch all over my clutch.
