I just finished installing a Panasonic headunit and infinity kappa 63.7i speakers all around. I used the oem speaker wires to connect the new speakers. First thing noticed is that im getting vibration, i guess i can just fix that with some rubber spacers or something of that sort, unless anyone else has recomendations. The second and main thing i noticed is that im getting alot of feedback/white noise. This will occur even if the cd player is on and nothing is playing, I can still hear the feedback through the speakers. It also makes the cd options very loud through the speakers as well (ie, seeking through the cd, switching tracks, if the cd skips etc etc).

Anyone know what could be causing this, and what the remedy would be?

Also a quick side question, I also purchased a amp and sub. I plan on installing the amp/sub sometime next week, but was curious where do most people run the amp wiring from the battery through? Also are there any writeups on sub installs for 240's? preferably s14's? Thanks.

Grounds grounds grounds... check your grounds. solder and heat wrap.

99.9% sure it's a ground problem.

Does it make noise with the revs of your engine also?

what grounds specifically? I used electric tape due to no soldering iron or solder. But ill probably go back and redo them within a week or so.

The noise does not go up with the engine revs.

Atleast use insulated crimp connections.

Double check all of the speaker connections at every possible connection ie at the speaker, at the head unit

I wouldn't be suprised if something was loose. With such a small gauge wire it doesn't take much for a loose connection.

As for grounds, check the grounds coming out of your head unit. Do the s14's have the diversity antenna (two pronged)? My 93 has it and I found out that some of the grounding goes through it so you gotta make sure you have the right adapter.

Ill check all the ground and connections this weekend. And report back.

Anyone have a method they wanna tell me about on running the wire from the battery through the engine bay/firewall for the sub wires?
thanks.

Drill+big bit+grommet=wire passthrough in firewall

In my 93 hatch there was a spot on the passenger side firewall that had this big rubber thing that just covered over a hole. I took it out (popped right out) cut a hole in it and put it back then ran the wiring through. I have 2 gauge running through it. If you're concerned with keeping the firewall all sealed up you could use some silicon to seal it up. I personally change stuff to often to bother.

Sub wires should not pass through the firewall, amp wire yes.

If you are doing up to 4 guage I think the factory grommet in the S14 at least should be able to handle it. I ran 1/0 for a battery relocation in the future. I used a 7/8" hole saw and placed the hole between the grommet and lower A/C line. It's a tight spot and you have to be careful as when you hit the factory underlayment, it will twist the drill hard...you are also going through two layers of metal.

In regard to the white noise to the OP, make sure the RCA's on the back of the head unit are not touching themselves or metal.
