Hi

I'm going to dump all the fluids in the 96 240 i recently acquired and I was wondering what recommendations people could give on fluids. I do have a slight oil leak at my seals so I've been toping off the tank with mobil 1 high mileage oil and that seems to have stopped the leaks but now I am having my egr getting clogged. I was wondering if anyone had experience with the other oils like royal purple and whether they have changed all their fluids to royal purple branded stuff? I was thinking about doing that but I wasn't sure how well there manual transmission oil would work in a stock setup 240. I figure the difference would be more obvious in a highly tuned engine, but I wasn't sure. I also plan to run some seafoam through my gas tank and engine block before i do the fluids change (I'm going to ignore the vacuum lines for now, whatever junk is keeping those lines from leaking can stay in there for right now). In addition I was going to replace my stock air filter. Any recommendations on those, i.e. does the NAPA stuff work just as good as the oem or is there a better filter i should be using which is cost effective, don't want to waste that gas now, it ain't getting cheaper ;)

Thanks in advance guys

Personally - I'd replace the box with a cone filter, run DOT 4/5 brake fluid(I bled the whole system first), and choose a good oil (love mobil 1) and always chase it with Lucas oil stabilizer. But again this is my own personal preference that works good for me

I totally missed this before. Your EGR is exhaust gas recirculation. There is a tube running from the exhaust manifold to the intake manifold, when the ECU says to, it opens the valve located on the intake side and lets exhaust gas in. Changing oil type will not effect the EGR is any way since the EGR never even sees any oil.

Yeah I know the EGR has no tie to the oil change but what I was wondering was whether the seafoam would clean up the injectors enough to prevent me from having to change it. I just have been getting egr flow malfunctions recently so I wasn't sure if the seafoam would do it for me or not.

Thanks for the fluid recommendations from everyone who has replied. Is there a better transmission filter than the stock or is any stock knockoff (that I could find in a parts store) adequate ?
