Hi there! :)

I'm in Northern Virginia, and I'm in the market for any decent running 240sx with a stick. What I'm curious about and couldn't find on this forum, was general life expectancy or any standout issues or benefits of certain S13 model years.

So, anyone have any tips for me? The biggest thing would probably be what to look for when buying a S13 so I don't get ripped off. (Not that I've had much luck finding one with a stick for an acceptable price down here :( )

Thanks for the help!

DONT Get ripped off. 240s are selling for a lot more than they should be. In hatches amke sure that the tail light is not leaking and if it has a spoiler, their is no rust. in a coupe make sure the tailights are working correctly. Make sure the headgasket is not blown, it is common in older KAs. just read up in FAQ, all your answers are there.

in ny the price of 240s have gone down since i bought mine a year ago. i got an 90 with rust and a nasty r32 front end for 2K it cost me $600 in body parts to put it back to where it should be. i would get an 91+ watch for rust under the rear hatch and just rust in general.

What they sell for is just an increase in the market demand for the 240s. More people wanna drift, thus more people wanna buy S13's thus resulting in higher prices. Wait until FnF3 comes out ... then you'll see prices go even higher.
With cars, you get what you pay for. Just keep that in mind. Pay dirt for a car and chances are you'll get a peice of shit with multiple issues, pay a bit more and you'll probably end up fine. I paid $2900 for my S13 with 90K miles in mid 2003 when others were selling for like $1500. Mine had never seen snow or rain though, and was owned by a woman who babied the shit out of the car. Body was practicly mint, almost no rust.
As I said, you get what you pay for.

yeah and in coupes, the tail lights like to stop working, but if you find one and it doesnt work, just take out the tail light, find which one isn't working, and take off where the ground connects to another wire, and there is a little plastic thing normally blocking the connection, or making it worse. thats what was wrong with mine and my brother. I bought my 89 coupe for 3200, Tein SS coilovers, Falken hanabi 17's w/ falken azenis, lots of other stuff, and almost perfectly clean.

i've been told that the 91 s13 was the best year due to something that i cant remember haha but if you want me to check on that i'll get back to you after next sunday...owned 90 for 900, and 89 for 750 both in running cindition but both were sold withing 2 months after getting them:) got another 90 model coming this january for 2k.

its because the cams were more "aggressive" even though the power rating of the KA24DE found in the 240sx has always been the same.

well my s13 has a bad habit of drinking too much and sometimes smoking but i tend to forgive it:rotflmao

ya it all depends on where you live too coz around bay area the only ones that you will find under 1k (well most of them) dont run or got messed up bodies. 2k is not that bad but fairly reasonable for the car that it is haha not considering s13 being a alsmost 17 year old car.
