identify ka24de year

how can you tell if its a 91-94 ka24de or a 95-98 ka24de?

also what does "53f" mean? i have it stamped on the block above the oil pan and on the head above the headers.

check the distributor cap, the 91-94 has an external coil so it will have 5 posts on the distributor cap, 95-98 has an internal coil so it will have 4 posts

Its much more simple to just see how many connectors there are on the distributor, not the pin count. If it has one connector, its S13. If it has 2, it has an internal coil and its S14.

Either way, its much easier to just swap over the S13 intake manifold and distributor onto the S14 block and head.

Just use the 91-94 dist on the 94+ and it will work ..also the Altinator plug is diffrent

can i use the upper doch engine harness on a ka24de 91-94. with a soch ka24e lower harness for the tranny + starter + alternator?

yes, you dont need a new lower harness.

Slys13, the alternator plugs are the same no matter what the year, im running a alterntor from a 97 ka on my 92 ka thats in my 90, the plug is just on a different part of the alternator

Easiest way i can think of is sticking you finger behind the valve cover(if its in the car if its out the car then jsut simply look and see.). There no bolt in the center of the early models, but the newer ones have one right in the center aligned with the 2 long ones at the top. This is from my experience, so im not sure it this is always true, can somone confirm.
