I was just wondering do you guys use two or one hands to drift (like the whole 10 and 2 thing?) or just one hand in the middle of the wheel. I do the later. I've driven for soo long with just one hand when i tryed two hands I threw my 240 into a ditch (it was a muddy ditch so no dmg :D and it fixed my lifter prob .. it donsn't make a tickin sound no more! lol) So Imma stick to one hand drifting its just natural for me. you guys?:D

... iono feels weird doin it with two... I've never done the one hand over the other ... ill practice tho:D

i one hand it in my mom's HEMI MOTHER FUCKER durango. the traction controll on that thing sucks balls. like when it is on, it helps you loose traction. but whatever, it's got a HEMI MOTHER FUCKER.

2 hands for precision and speed always.

That's true.

I used to 1 hand constantly, my reasoning was "my other hand is for the sidebrake" (that I rarely used)

But, as I got faster and faster I didn't feel comfortable 1 handing anymore, it felt too dangerous 1 handing @ over 50mph. So I've basically taught myself to drive w/2 hands over the past 6 months.

If you watch professional drivers, their hands never leave the wheel, there's constant input. That's how it should be if you're drifting, as the car travels sideways over bumps and shit you should have constant steering input to maintain your line and angle, etc. Now the only time my hand leaves the wheel (when drifting) is for a sidebrake initiation, or sidebrake angle control. My lines have smoothed out and there's no end-of-drift squirreliness that low power cars get (BTW if the cars whipping back on you, you're holding the counter steer too long, you need to feel for the end of the drift before you actually get there, but that's another topic).

It'll take some getting used to, but if you're diligent it'll become habit, and you'll improve as a driver.

Good luck

good call. i forgot bout the input you get from your tires when you have both hands on the wheel. you will be one with your car :D.

Depending on where I'm at, if its a parking lot or somewhere I feel really safe I will use one hand cause my cars an automatic and I mostly use sidebrake to drift and correct angles etc(I know other techniques like brake and weight transfer but with an auto open diff you need to combine all of those into one technique for a good drift), but when I'm doing a narrow road, high speed corner, or a long corner I always have to hands on the stearing wheel unless I reach down for the sidebrake, the way I learned is the mt. I drift down there is a hump in the middle of the road towards the end of the haripin that you can't really dodge and when I used one hand I'd hit it and catch understeer and have to quickly try to recover it, until somebody told me to just hold the stearing wheel, with 2 hands and feel it out and thats what I did and after a couple runs I didn't catch understeer anymore when I hit the hump I just learned to give it less countersteer and it will keep you going longer in the drift, but it is true you can feel so much more with 2 hands.

2 HANDS = more control, the only time you should ever have one hand on the steering wheel is..
A. while turning/steering (hand over hand)
B. using the ebrake for mid-drift correction, or cheap drift initiation
C. showing off with one hand out the window during 90 mph super dorifto (LOL)

btw. to thsi day i've never used my ebrake to initiate a drift

One handed driving for just normal driving, usualy have one arm sitting on the door, just feels more comfortable, any time I begin speeding though or driving the car hard, I go right to do hands on the wheel.

For city driving I just have one hand at 10 or 2. I hate the one hand in the middle crap, I dont see whats so damn cool about it. And you're gona have tons of fun if a tire blows or you need to do evasive action. You'd probably be alright in one direction, but not the other. What I really hate though is people that just limp their wrist over the middle. Yeah, GREAT FRIGGEN IDEA, and you look SO cool doing that.
[end rant]
