Currently im looking in to haveing some pipes made for my exhaust. its much cheaper to have a exhaust shop do it than buy it from a aftermarket company. n e hoo. i was wondering what is the ideal pipe diameter for a turbo car. i know the ideal pipe diameter for n/a vehecles are usually around 60 mm/2.25 in. I wantede to know what would i use for turbo cars. i also dont want it too loud becasue the po po in my region are super strict. i also am prolly going to put on a high flow cat to eliminate some of the smell.

measure the diameter of the turbine outlet. Its probably close to about 2.5", then measure the wastegate diameter. Thats probably about another inch. Add the areas together and find a diameter for the exhaust thats at least bigger than that.

it usually adds up to be at least 2.75" to 3", but the bigger the better

these days they do it while ur waiting. i have an exhaust but then its a big big and loud and gay sooo i would like to a custom exhaust. would the bigger piping mean it would increase in noise? if so i could just keep mine and put in a high flow cat or sumthign.

i need a cat because cali laws are very strict and socal is worse than anywhere. also my engines illegal, so is my exhaust. my engine is hidden pretty well but then i cant hide no cat. also the smell is horrible. i think on a average 3in so about 75mm is a good size i might go 3" all the way there are high flow 3" cats.

It IS very loud with no cat on it. If you get a 3" high flow cat, you may lose like 4-5 hp, but you'll never miss them if you care about the exhaust smelling good and keeping it quiet.

I have a straight 3" exhaust from turbo back with no cat and just a megan muffler, and I was measured at 102 dB from 50 feet away at an autocross. Very loud, very illegal, and sure to get you in trouble. Just the way I like it!

sniffer tricks?

I've been running open DP for over a year now. Loud as hell but no probs from the police. Norcal.

Also love it when i put the V8's to shame when they try to rev on me.

I was on NICO and they were talking about the HKS Hi Power Exhaust being too big for the SR20DET. They said it caused torque loss and a smaller diameter exhaust will allow for faster spool. I made a post saying how its better to go bigger and everyone was against me. Read this and post what you think.
hks wouldn't sell it if it was bad for performance. it's not like they just go, "oh we'll make an exhaust today" they engineer it. perform numerical modeling, build prototypes, run tests, gather data, repeat

do they still use sniffer trucks?? I think in certain situations, u can win a fighting ticket about that...

Remember, i say only certain situations. BUt i can't believe they still use sniffer trucks....

see...

thats where our tax money goes to.... should be going to in re-paving the streets instead :)
