Do you hate your S14 lights? Do you hate the fact that they are still slightly yellow even after a good hand wash? Do you wish your lights looked a little more clear? I did when I bought my car. I had someone on his board tell me about an easy process that will make you fall in love with your S14 lights again. Here is what I went through :

1.) Go out to your local Autozone or auto parts store and
buy : Eagle One aluminum and rim polish. It's in a small
silver can.

2.) Go home and take out your headlight. (This process can
be skipped if you have steady hands and trust that the
paste will not get onto your car's paint) Do one headlight
at a time.

3.) Take the can and unscrew it.

4.) Make the rag go over two fingers and wrap around like
you would when you polish shoes.

5.) Take up some of the polish and apply liberally onto the
clear outside part of headlight. You will see the towel/rag
get a little black but it is o.k. DO NOT LET THE PASTE
DRY.

7.) Wipe the paste all off with the same rag.

8.) Wipe the residue with a paper towel or another clean
towel/rag.

9.) Wax over to add protection so it won't happen for a while.

10.) Put back on the light.

11.) Stand back and fall in love again with the S14 lights.

This process can be done with any plastic lights that are crusted over including but not limited to... BMW plastic headlights, Maxima plastic headlights, and even Z24 headlights. I even used this process for the rear lights and they came out great. Unfortunately I do not have before and after pics because I didn't have my digital camera yet but try it out and see what it can do for you. :p

.....but there's just no subsitute for the real thing. I tried the polishing of the light, but it only lasted a week. So I went and got new assemblies from nissan. Polishing is a great fix, but a temperary one.:wtf

That's why I said to wax it afterwards for protection. Your new lights will do the same thing after awhile. What subsitute for the REAL thing are you talking about? My lights are the REAL thing.

what ever the condition of your lights where, mine only retained the shine for about a week, and yes I waxed them for protection as I wax the rest of the car. As for the "real thing", that would be new headlights. .....Sure the new lights may do the same thing at some point, but the guys at Nissan said that it was caused by condensation and my new asssemblys also came with new seals. So, if it does happen again it will be years instead of weeks or months.....and thusly the REAL THING.:smoker

Hands down the best solution is new headlamp assemblies. Mainly cause most of the time you are dealing with 2 problems; external and interal discoloration. For the external issue your really just buffing out all the tiny scracthes and sperations (which are hard to see) out of the surface.....and the are a few chemicals out there that are suppose to remove the internal yellowing which is due to condensation and bulb heat.

No wax is permenant, therefore neither is this solution.

The "real thing" would be buckin up and getting new headlights....And yes, it may happen again w/ new lights but it will be years from now instead of weeks or months.

...now, maybe all you had to do is polish them once and you will never have to do it again, but that isnt the case for me or anyone else at Jim Click Nissan here in AZ. .......If you have had different experience then good for you.

Oh....and the real thing would be buckin up and getting new lights.

I used mothers aluminum polish and it worked great... its been about a week and it looks the same, so who knows if i have to do spend 30 minutes every couple of weeks thats ok with me, because im doing a Kouki conversion after my engine anway ;) polishing will suffice till then

you can see the difference clearly at my page... check pages 1 then 2... www.cardomain.com/id/dekand

If it only lasted a week you didn't do a good job of polishing.

So I went and got new assemblies from nissan. Polishing is a great fix, but a temperary one.
So is getting a new assembly. It's only a matter of time until it gets yellow again. I think I'll pass on that and stick with polishing my old lights. Mine lasted 3 months (Still going strong), unless you wanna buy me a new set of lights since money doesn't seem to be a concern for you ;)
