so yesterday was the second day i drove my 240 and we had some pretty wet roads so i went to my high school parking lot and decided to practice drifting. so long story short i got caught in the middle of doing it... anybody else have problems with getting caught and when/if you do how do you calm the parents down?

Iv been caught once before drifting in a parking lot unfortunately it was by the cops. The cop ended up giving me a reckless driving ticket :crazyrant, needless to say my parents were quite pissed when I came home with a 6 point ticket and a court date, its a misdemeanor here in MI so court is mandatory :eek4: . Luckily I was able to get it dismissed since I had a clean record, because it could have resulted in a suspension of my license. Just be careful cause if you get caught by the cops your most likely going to get screwed big time. And to calm your parents down just tell them you were trying to learn how to control your car better in a safe condition incase you came across bad road conditions in the future, that worked with my parents pretty well :thumbsup .
keep it safe

you explain to them that since its rwd, it's easy to lose control in certain circumstances. and what you were doing in that parking lot was learning how to control your vehicle in case you ever get in one of these circumstances on the road. wallah.

^LMAO:1bowdown My Dad is pretty cool about stuff like that, he's seen me come home with my 240 smoking out from under the hood, seen me come home with the 240 on a tow truck (snapped tension rod and bent control arm:heyhey ), and with gravel jammed between my wheel rim and tire and he just sits and smiles as i make up some story about a chipmunk or deer that was in the road that I had to avoid by drifting around it. I think he realizes he was alot worse at my age and at least I'm not on drugs. Plus he always tells me stories of him drifting and racing in his MGB and Mach 1 when he was my age:D

my parents would spazz out if they knew that i even cut donuts....they think i should drive like a civic hybrid or something like that.....

they have no clue...so i say yalls parents rock out!!

:rotflmao when I give my dad rides and I come to a turn he braces himself and tells me to "pull it sideways." He also told me to to shift later when I got exhaust cuz he likes the sound.:thumbsup

So is it legal to use empty parking lots to practice, like the SCCA does for their events? I know that they get permission, so there must be SOME sympathetic people out there.

HAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!

I live on my own, and I didn't get my first car till I bought one when I was 20.

SO I don't what to tell you except: respect your fucking parents, and just because you checked for cops before you started doing the poser dance, doesn't mean they won't drive up randomly right in the middle of your little "session".

LOL's

lol, why were u drifting in a high school parking? is ur high school not on one of the main roads? u gotta find a secluded lot where there isnt much traffic passin by.

"Who paid for the car?
Who pays for its gas?
Who pays for its insurance?
Who doesn't/hardly lives under your roof anymore?
Oh wait, that's me."

That's how I solved the problem.

No.
They have to get a permit and insurance to hold those events. Even if you were allowed by the lot owner to practice there. If a cop drives by he can hit you up for "disturbing the peace", "reckless driving", "public endangerment", and so on. Just because you have permission doesn't mean people still can't walk by the parking lot, or you can slip up off the lot onto a sidewalk, or the squealing tires will blast someone's ear drums.

this high school is pretty secluded actually.

but anyways... it turned out my parents didn't get as mad as i had expected... they just wanted me to stop and we all know that's not gonna happen so i just have to hope i don't get caught again.

Yeah, when I got my 240 I told my dad I wanted to learn to drift and AutoX, him being a big guy into cars himself, said as long as I can pay the tires and keep it legal, I can.
W3rd.
