Ok well last thursday I pulled my KA24E out of the 90 240SX! Now it's just a rolling shell. So Here's where I am thus far, and I need some advise. I have the RB20 Crossmember, should I
A: Buy new mounts for the S13 Chassis or RB

B: Get a mount kit like Top Hats

What is the best route to go because I have the crossmember?

Yes, I know you got them I can't wait to get paid/// I need to buy some parts...
I also took out my engine before you. Now my engine bay is pure stripped ready for some paint, muhaha :heyhey

meh tophat mounts are a good alternative if you dont have the xmember but i personly like using the xmember as it is significantly sturdier than any mount kit could hope to be.

I was thinking the same for the simple fact that it is a OEM part. and in some instances cases the OEMs usually work better than aftermarket.

Carl I agree with the fact that the R32 xmember is sturdier, but I personally think a mount kit (I got tophat as well) makes things easier. Also, if you're not planning on running crazy power (like the 500 you're shooting for carl) the tophat mounts are sturdy enough.

Also, if you're worried about it being sturdy and wanting better weight distribution/ more clearance, I would get the mount kit. Once you've got the kit take the 240's xmember off, bolt it to the engine and weld the lower portion of the mounts to the xmember. This may require some extra metal plates to fill the gap but will def. make it just as sturdy as the R32 xmember.

my 2 cents

I would say do it with the r32 x member. Sounds like you dont have tons of bling so I would save what you got to get it going. I have heard a few people that have done it with the 32 x member and had excelent luck. One Guy claims he did a 20 swap from start to finish in 4 days.
MacAdams
(I actually did an RB20 swap for a guy in Minot, ND. easy as hell. it went in a 90 hatch. the front clip was an R32. the front crossmember bolts into the 240SX cahsis, so no need for custom mounts. an electric fan is needed and you have to notche the downpipe or it will rub on the steering shaft knuckle. it takes about 8 wires to get it up and running. I pulled into town, had never even seen an RB in person before, the blown up E was still in the dudes car, and I had it up in running in 4 days, working on it about 6 hours a day.)
But I have never seen a 20 or 25 in person just four 26's. So i have no experiance with them.

buy top hat mounts. i've got an rb25 in an s14 with a fluidyne rad right. my core support got laid back about 1" and the rad is still like 4" from the motor. can you say that would have happaned with the r32 xmember?

Yeah my rad is still going to be a nice distance from the motor maybe not 4'', but a good 2-3'' prolly, lol. for the simple fact that I have the xmember and that I hear from a guy who uses it with his RB20 said that I will have the clearence to run my rad a dual electric fans at a safe enough distance from the motor. like I said 2-3" is good enough for me.

Yeah, I do, sorta... but not for long.

I did this mainly for cheapness reasons for the time being. I will be getting electric fans for 2 reasons. One being they incure less mechanical losses on the motor, and 2nd being it will allow me to run power steering (which I can't b/c the fan's in the way of the belt).

Chaos, it looks to me like you've made up your mind w/o this thread, so what was the point? 6 people told you mounts were the way to go, yet you said "like I said 2-3" is good enough for me." Basically, it's up to you bro. Good luck.

To tell the truth I just wanted to compare differences, I knew that I would attract opinions from you all to draw my conclusion.
