im planning on buying volk GTC's in either 17x8 and 17x9 or 18x8 and 18x9... now the question is, who is in favor of the 18" over 17's? well all know the 240 has a rather large wheel well, thus making most 17's look and feel like a typical 16 (due to large tire size) but what is the majority opinion not just for my sake, but in general for 240's. (s14's). thanks!

tire rack told me i should go with 235/40/17 and 245/40/17 in the rear, which i think is bullshit. im almost positive i should go 17's with a 50 sidewall all around. also, 9's will fit in the rear without modification right? thanks

I wasted my money on 17's (looks small for s14) so i sold it and got myself some 18's. Now 18's it's starting to look small for my taste. Going to do 19's next. :) What offset are u planning on getting with those rims?
hehe...rich i would be more than happy to take your 18"s. :D
Well to answer your question, I guess it would depend on your preference. I mean are you getting rims more for the looks or are you still thinking bout the performance? If your going for strictly looks, id go with 18's. Im running 18' Enkei RPM2 with 225/40, lowered with eibachs and still got some fender gap which I can deal with. Only thing is that having 40 ratio makes my rims look like theyre 17's. But oh wells, the rims i got are pretty light, Id say close to the stock 16' SE rims i had. *atleast from what i remember when i changed the wheels myself*

well itll be a daily driver, and with all my car projects i try to balance street and show perfectly.... however, volk GTC's which i insist on getting will cost me 2 grand in 18" plus id spend another grand on tires alone. the car will be in drifting comps and 1/4 mile races, so i think i have to go with 17's... but yea, 17's do look small on 240's :(

I had 18s on mine and liked it. Only problem i had was wheel hop. Due to the rubber. Anyhow if you get let say an 18/225/35 series tire the rim diameter should be almost the same as if you got 245/50/17. So it makes no difference really. On 240s the wheel base is so big that 18s actually small. People asked me all the time if i had 17s when in fact they where 18s.

I'd like to see if I can squeez 18x10's in the rear with I think a 35 offset. If I have to flare it a little I probably will. In regards to performance I can't see how it will hinder it as long as you have the power to push it. Hence the engine swap >:)

I'll test it on my 240 as soon a switch to 5 lug.
Max has 18x10's 35 offset

If you are going with 17s I would recommend 225/45/17 20mm offset in front and 255/40/17 38mm offset in rear.

For 18s 225/40/18 for front and 255/35/18 for rear with same offsets as above.

Check out http://www.mr2.com/FORMS/tire.html you can calculate how far off your speedo will be with whatever setup you go with.

And yes 9" rims will fit in the rear, 10" will fit too with the right offset.

Go with 18. That way you wont regret it later. I have 15s , Iam not happy at all!! I hope to get some 16s cause i have a perfectly good pair of 205/55 in my garage from a car i only owned for a month. But 18s yes. I have a s13 so i would only go to 17.

only problem... to buy a good tire in 18x8 and 18x9 will honestly be around 700-900 bucks!!! besides that, throw the costs of drifitng in that tire/wheel combo, and ill be broke in less than a year! anyone know of any good tire setups in those sizes for 150-175 a tire?

If you are going to run 18s you could go with a Kumho Ecsta 712 or a Yokohama AVS ES 100 both are decent tires for the money. I plan to run 17x8 and 17x9 and run either Yokohama AVS Sports or Kumho Ecsta MXs. The main reason that I am going with 17s is more tire options, I would prefer 18s but you are then limited in what tires you can get. And when you go drifting put a different set of wheels on, at least in the back.

what would be the propper offset for a 17x8 and 17x9 for a s14? thanks.... +20 in front seems a little much.
I was planning on ordering my wheel through Wheelmax or Wheeloptions, can't remember which I called but they told me to run +20 in front and +38 in rear. I also have 300zx brakes so I needed to clear those in the front and I am going to run Black Racing rims since I can't afford the Advan RGs. I am just going by what I was told, I have not run these offsets.

Actually I just called wheeloptions to see if they had me rims in stock and now he says to run a +31 offset in front and a +38 in the rear and with that offset and the rims I am looking at it will clear larger calipers and coilovers. Hope this helps.
