I have a 98 240sx SE, the one they built w/o LSD or ABS, and I'm researching different types of diffs to figure out which one is best for my situation.

The car is basically a daily driver (no winter driving), although I've been known to slide a corner or race someone durring my daily drive. Maybe some stoplight sprints on the weekend. No autocross, drag strip, drift competitions or anything like that. The car is currently n/a but I'm hoping to turbo it next year and be putting down 200-250 hp.

With that said, I'm torn about what kind of diff to get without sacrificing comfort and drivability and without breaking the bank. I'm not about to spend 800-900 on a diff. If I understand what I've read correctly it seems like either a stock VLSD or an aftermarket helical would be best, but I would really like to know what everyone here thinks and what people are using in similar situations.

So... opinions and real life driving impressions please!

if you go into the forsale section of utahnissans.com there is a guy local to me selling a stock diff for 200 bones...

( not not tryin to promot our site here just addressing options for the guy)

not sure how much shipping would be though..

well i just found out the JDM diff i bought has a nismo 2 way in it. its built for the track so the ride is kinda rough. i say if you want track shit then buy a OBX lsd, its like 300. if you want more road use but a vlsd. a jdm one will cost you about 300. but thats the whole diff, not just the internals like the OBX

ive got an ats deftforce 2 way in my car, sounds like the rear end is about to drop out.

But if i have an open diff right now all i would need is the internal part right? I read you can more or less "drop it in". I know it's a little more technical than that but, for example, if I decided on the OBX I don't need a different housing or shafts or anything do I?

Ive had the vlsd, worked great. Then somebody offered me $500 for it so out it came.
Replaced it with a NISMO 2way. Best LSD i've ever used! Since i still drive the car on the street it can give you second thoughts when making u turns and what not.
The only real problem with it is that when i drive around town with the stock 6.5 SE's and this NISMO lsd in the rain...well i practicly crap myself. Thank god its summer now.

lol any car with a 2 way in the rear is scary in the rain, start adding wider tires and you dont leave the house when it rains...

i have a VLSD from a 180sx with the 5 bolt shafts and i love my LSD , i have an automatic coupe right now lower with TYpe HE coilovers from Tein and it slides so easily in u-turns. Works good for daily driving too. Avoid the ATs Deftforce , its really noisy and clunky but very functional. Just get a VLSD or an S15 Helical and call it a day
