Hello im new to these boards and ive been looking at 240s for years and im really considering getting one now that im getting closer to driving. Well i was wondering if i should get a S13 first or a S14 first. if i get a s14 than i was going to drive it till the motor goes than swap to a sr20det. so any help would be good. btw im not a fan of drifting so dont say nothing about the new fatf.

Well here's the deal ...

Both cars are great to start off with. One is just a bit lighter than the other (S13) and the style you want. I do not know what your intensions are (I was going to drift but I'm sticking to drag), but 240's are great for all types of sports (drift, drag, autoX). Again, depending what your intensions are.

As for motors go, If you are going to just not do anything with the engine and want to swap, then why not just do it ahead of time? Or why not just stick with the KA and go KA-T? There are so many options for the car between engines.

I think you should figure out what you want to do with the car first so you can build up on ideas from there.

Best route as a new driver... leave the engine alone for a while. It may suck to have a low power car but stock 240's have plenty of power for beginning drivers. I'd put money into other aspects of the car, mod your suspension, your brakes, buy a real nice set of tires, stuff like that. If you do mods like that you'll definitely notice the performance level of your car shoot up without adding a single horse, plus those things also tend to make the car much safer. When it comes to the engine there are so many options to take with these cars that's it's just not something to jump into, give it time, practice driving, figure out what you really want to do with the car because your taste may change down the road. Find some autocross events or join the SCCA and just have a blast and learn about driving, after a few years of that, you'll know exactly what you want out of the car.

Who said insurance has to know whats in your car? That's new to me because never had that problem (unless it's required in some states).

That's whta I've been doing .. my car is not only my track car, but my daily driver as well.

i personally like the S13, i got a thinkg for pop up lights. either one would be good for dragging. there essentially the same, motors and everything should be pretty much i dentical. 91+ has 155 horse, 89-90 only has 140, just a lil tid bit.

personally waiting for the stock motor to blow seems to take quite a while unless u beat it bad but doing that also leads to other things wrong with the car. if u are set on the sr20 than buy one and build it out of car as u ca afford it. much easier to work on a engine on a stand and u can build as u go vs. not having a car between the ka blowing and u finding a sr20.

haha lol .. KA's take extreme beatings so expect that motor to last well over 200K. My buddy Josh drove his car across the country when he moved over there and the motor finally died well over 300K and was beaten daily. He recently did a hybrid though and dropped a 302 in it because the parts for the Mustang motors are dirt cheap and make crazy horsepower (I would have chose a GM 350 small block if I was going that route though).

Moral of the story .. KA's take a while to go BOOM!
