I currently have a rb26 that is going in a S13. It's built except for cams and rods. I'm currently deciding what turbo to get for my setup. I'm going to mostly be using it for the street with some drag just for fun. This car isn't a everyday driver either. I'm looking to have around 500-600whp on pump gas. I need a T4 flange since I already have a HKS top mount manifold. The two turbo's I've been looking at are the Garrett GT35R .83 AR and the GT40R .63 AR. Do you guys think the GT40R might be too much for the street?

Go with the GT35R. The 35R will be much more fun on the street. You will have a broader power band which on the street makes a big difference. The 35R is good for 600 so that would be right in your target area too. The 40R would be scary too with the .63 once boost hit it you would be all over the place. The .83 on the 35R will be easier to handle...

On pump gas, you are not going to make 500-600rwhp on either of those turbos. With a 40R you might get 475. You need a 67+ to get over 500rwhp on pump gas. If you had cams, that would make 500rwhp a lot easier on pump gas.

What is pump gas in your area? I can get 100, but I do not count that.

Ok I just ordered tomei 280 degree cams with a 11.5 lift, tomei type b springs and lifters just last week. I also got a custom dual ball bearing T04R with a 1.00 AR, polished housing, temp coating, and q-trim wheel for $1300 on the way. I will post pics and dyno figures when my car comes all together. All of this is going in a 1990 S13.5 hatch btw. Should be quite a monster.

guy on skylines au, was running a 35r 1.02 A.R on pump gas at 18 psi, dynoing 500whp, stock head, stock everything. but turbo and e/manage. on pump gas.

On an RB26 with an HKS manifold, I'd get the HKS T51R SPL BB, that turbo should get you 500+ on pump.

bull shit you can only get 475whp with a gt40r on pump. That is a BIG turbo. Friend of mine has made 400whp on a 50 trim t3/t4 as have many others (on pump gas). the gt40 is way bigger than a 50 trim. I'd give both at least 500whp on decent pump gas with a good tune. Besides, hasn't anyone on this forum heard of methanol injection?

Thats very much depending on which GT40 you get...the GT4082 would make you right about the 475, but it's not an R...the GT4088R would get you over 500whp on pump pretty easily.

Yeah he can get 500wheel from pump gas Shell V-Power, there is a GT-R arpund me that has a single GT35R and he make a little over 5ooWHP.

I am sure that when he said 500-600 whp, he was not talking about the extremely low 500s. I would love to see the dyno graph on this 35R at 18 psig. Have a pic of it?

How much lag is "ok" with you? The 40R will be rediculous on the street in just about any S chassis. It will start to spool around 3K, and should be all in by 4500, with good tuning. Thing is, that the power will just overwhelm the tires at that level. If you plan on racing, make it on the freeway, cause you are going to spin. I can spin the tires in 2nd from a low RPM roll on with my 67. I can spin them pretty good on the highway in 3rd on a cool day, and this is on an stock long block RB25.

For the street, the 35R is one of the best turbos you can use in the S chassis, unless you have good suspension, and great tires. Light cars and a lot of power need a lot of respect.

For the freeway though, the 40R all the way!
