Ok guys I have some tein super drifts on my car. I made another thread and ive concluded that they are super stiff. Now before I spend $180 getting them taken out and re-aligned just to HOPE they were adjusted wrong I wanted to post a thread hopeing someone else has them.

If you have the tein super drifts on your car do they at any of the 16 adjustments bounce like no tomorrow. I mean my street has small waves and when I lightly press the brake they front tires screech because of the bounce. I like to call it "JDM Bounce" but uhh....Just want to know if its the same with anyone else. Seriously though the traction is nill. I cant turn....its that bad. When there is a bump or rock or anything the front wheels hop and I have no steering untill they hit the floor and I lose control. I guess they would be super perfect for drifting but I drive also...in fact I drive more then I drift and these things are pissing me off.

So if you do have some I would love feed back on them.
PS if my typing and runon sentances suck its cause im watching a movie and typing at the same time lol

no dead serious..there was a small flat rock in the canyons and I almost crashed because of it, bounce>wheels in air>no steering>wheels fall>car slides>then it looks like im moshing inside my car you know the drill. Now Im not a coilover guru but these are rediculously stiff. Im pretty sure they are set wrong...shit I hope for $1,500 worth that they are set wrong. yea super stiff only thing I could think of is that im running on like 10% shock anyway fixing these would make my car actually drivable

anyway thx 217 for the input. Knowing they are stiff but not to the point where bounce up and down everything assured me that mine are horribly wrong. Cant wait adjust them correctly

why did you buy coilovers setup for drifting when your going to be using mainly for daily? Sounds like you should sell them and buy a set of softer coilovers or at least get Tein to revalve them because I think the spring rates are about the same as most coilovers...8k front and 6K rear...or maybe they are slightly stiffer? I am not sure

Yea thats what Im thinking...if adjusting them doesnt work i will sell them. About buying them I bought the car about a month ago and they were on it. It was a major selling point but I forgot to ask what kind. The funny thing is he bought them and im sure never drifted it lol

I have the same coilovers on my car. Yes they are horribly stiff, but no...i can handle just fine? They can be pretty bumpy and i've only had 1 or 2 times where my fronts hopped and had steering issues and when i'm going really fast on the freeway my rear would slide out a little if i hit a bump durring a corner (scrary as hell when going 115). Btw i also run my coilovers at the 6th stoftest setting.

sounds like you should just play with the damping, and get an alignment that allows more grip, i.e. less camber.

in the future, read up on things before you buy them.

spring rate is 10f 8r
I'm on board with what the others are saying. Superdrifts are far to agressively valved and springed (is that a real term?) for daily use on bad pavement. I wonder if you could order some softer springs for daily use?

I find that my 8/6 springs are just bearable over rough pavement...

Yes, they are a major pain in the ass for daily use...i mean, it CAN be bearable but i have to cross railroad tracks at like 15 mph FASTEST...sometimes 10. I like the suspension though, it's given me nothing but great handling around corners at high speed, just it's horrible on rough roads.

Im sorry but theres a bunch of whinning going on, you bought coilovers you should know whats comes with that territory. If you cant take the ride then get some agx. Yall should have riden in a car with coilovers first before buying them. Coilovers are for track use not ment for the street anyone will tell you that so either suck it up or go get some springs and shocks. This just proves that people will buy into hype without even knowing what there getting.

Yes, i know all of that. But i didn't buy coilovers after i bought my car, my car came like this. I was happy to get coilovers with the car and knew they would be stiffer, when i test drove the car they were really stiff and i was fine with that. Obviously with what you're getting there have to be some compromises made and if it's the bumpiness, so be it. And even with the whole bumpy thing, i still really like the coilovers because of the cornering stability they have given me and have held up to everything i've put them through.

since everyone is making me out to be the bad guy I will make a bet that the dampening is wrong. I ride tight coilovers and I get it but in these if you hit anything the front hops. In fact when I repair my brake lights this saturday im going to make a vid of how it hops so much on my street that even if you solftly brake the front tires with screech at 10mph just becasue of waves in the street.
So wait before judgeing me and dont assume they are in perfect working order. I just cant take a 10 8 spring rate yea thats it, I think the most logical thing to do would be to not take into concideration that they could be adjusted wrong....sigh cmon guys.
I know it may sound like whining but put yourself in my shoes. Bought a car a month ago and you cant drive fast becuase the front hops so much you lose control. Anyway im trying not to be angry me and my friend will check them out this saturday.
And I just have a wierd feeling im right because when I got it they adjustment was on 1 all the way around and I moved them to 16 drove around then 12 drove around 8 drove around and finally 4. Absolutly no difference same hop.

i think like the guy you bought it from adjusted them wrong...give him a call and ask how he lowerd the car... more than likely he adjusted the spring rather than dropping the coilover into the threaded lower bracket... sounds like the coilovers are not preloaded at all and your just bouncing around on your springs. jack up your car and see if your springs move around freely or if theres a gap at the pillow mount.

I think the opposite would be more the case. Too much spring pre-load which would make for no spring rebound and insufficient shock travel...kinda like driving with solid rods welded in place of your coilovers...hence the hops over even small bumps in the road.

Really though, these are drift oriented coilovers 10/8 springs with highly agressive damping, these are not intended for road use. They are going to be stiff...take it or leave it.

i don't think you understand what im talking about, im sure youve seen cars with cut springs to achive a drop. think about how those cars react to bumps, they bounce like crazy. they've minimized the spring and now have to much rebound stroke. basicly the samething will happen to a coilover when adjusted improperly. if you lower your car to much from the spring seat rather than the threaded lower bracket the same thing will happen. thats why i asked if there was a gap between the spring and pillowmount when the car is raised up.

i've had these coilovers since there release, and have played with every setting you can think of. 10/8 set-up is not that bad, ive had people say my car rides nicer than there 8/6 set-ups.
