HI, I haven't gotten the chance to post here in awhile. I need some advice. I recently bought a 93 5speed coupe with about 60,000 miles. I went to change the gear oil in the tranny, and much to my dismay i didn't find gear oil... i found motor oil. Now my transmission is making horrible noises (sounds like sandpaper). I was wondering if anyone has dealt with anything similar to this and has advice as to waht my 1st step should be in dealing with this. Demanding records of any service done at the dealership, talking with a mechanic, injecting whoever is responsible with the motor oil to see how well they run!?!
Any advice or insight into this problem would be appreciated.

fill it w/ gear oil, drive around for a while, drain the tranny and see if any metal particles drain out w/ it. If you see a LOT of metal particles, then you're gonn have to replace the tranny (sorry).

Is it just me or 240 transmissions garbage. I've owned three manual transmissions in s13's and have always had problems with them. This one especially has 60,000 miles of woman driving, and me not driving very hard and is already making noise.

I should also add ttht I put royal purple 75 90 in the transmission. I'm wondering it that isn't the best thing to put in it. It never hurt the transmission in my last car. I also have a B&M short shifter in the car that i put in at the same time as the royal purple. I've heard B&M's are somewhat noisy, but i don't think this noise is normal. It's odd because I only faintly heard the noise until the B&M and royal purple were put in.

Yeah but he has 60k on his. Or do you mean the cheap replacements?

I would just get a refurbished one from a dealer. Might be costly but you'll get a warranty most likely.
no, people talk about the trannys having problems and no one seem sto think about them having a crapload of miles. sort of like the people that say KA's have tons of problems, all they've looked at are the high mileage ones, of course stuff is going to wear out.

and of course theres the low mileage ones that aren't taken care of like his.
