updates???
I've been busy with work and baby stuff lately, and haven't had the chance to post pictures from last Saturday.

As an update though, I finished up the car and am taking it down to the shop on Saturday to try and fire it up on Monday.
...
I should have some pictures posted by early next week at the latest
andy your not referring to pregancy updates are you? and are you goin to start a build thread for the crib? cause im sure that build will take almost as long as the 240 project :)
Smartass. :smacked49

awesome write up man, i just read the whole damn thing! when you do upgrade to coilovers, you should check out KW variant 3's they run around 2,000 which is cheap for what you get. quality is top notch, along with performance.

good luck with the project in the future!

From the Intarwebbing I just did, it looks like they're only available for the 350Z. Am I missing something?

they were just released in june for the 240sx. they are very popular among s2000 owners for being the best bang for bunk if you accually want your car to handle better.

wow those rates are super low....550/450 would be closer to ideal for our track 240's.

and $1925 for thsoe coilover, for about half that cost you can piece togeather a suspension thats track proven and that has a market where you can change out spring rates without trouble.

i say do Ground Control Coilover sleves with Eibach 550/450 springs and koni Yellow shocks, and Ground Control Camber plates up top. This n my eyes is teh best setup for our cars, costs the same of ever basic coilover, but you have great valved shocks, a wide variety of springs to choose from, and places to send the parts for work if there is ever an issue.

i gotchyah, im almost done my car. but, there are issues with no spark. i actualy think i'm going to say f- it and take it to my local shop and get them to finish it up. problem is they are like 80$ an hour. so yeah, ill talk to them and see what they can do for me and for how much.

not a bad set up but these not track proven.. HA, you have to be kidding. . i guess nobody noticed the individual adjustment of rebound and compression. these are true 3 way dampers.

no i noticed the adjustment capabilities, and i didnt say they werent track poroven, i said the one si reccommended were deff proven. Just the rates suck for being such a good suspension. Being able to adjust rebound and compression is for someone who has had tons of track experience and knows what they are looking for. It would be like if i switched from my current setup to a set of Ohlins, a tad too much of a jump.

Hey man, you may want to reconsider putting that "fire blanket" thing on the engine side of your hood on. I've heard nothing but bad things about it. It doesnt prevent anything, it only causes fires when things get hot. Just my .02 though. Lookin out for ya. You still haven't seen my car have you?

Thanks for the heads-up.

Unfortunately my computer crashed a few days ago and I am waiting on a new one, so I will not be able to post pictures for another week at least.

In the way of an update though:
I was able to build fuel and oil pressure Saturday, but could not get the oil pressure gauge working. So I'm not sure how much pressure I had exactly. I ran out of time though and had to button everything up to tow it down to P1 Jack (@ P1) should be able to figure out the gauge situation. It seems like the gauge is only seeing 5V though, but it might be an issue of hooking it up to the wrong spot on the fuse panel.

The plan is to let it idle high for ~20 minutes (and I guess get the coolant system bled too?), then turn it off and change the oil and filter. After this, it should be ready for break-in on the dyno.

One of the things we had trouble with was getting the fuel pump to run. Since the wiring was redone in the whole car, we started by testing voltages in the chassis harness, then the fuel pump subharness at the pump itself. After finding 12V in both places, we thought the fuel pump was shot, but Carl was able to get it running by tapping on it. Apparently, sitting around for some time could keep the pump from starting.

On the power side, I was hoping I wouldn't have problems with the Hawker Odyssey PC680 since it's been sitting around for a couple of years now, but there were none. It probably helped that the terminals had not yet been installed. :thumbup

More to come...

I got a call from my friend at the shop today telling me that the wiring was all f-ed up. I got to the shop and he solemnly motioned me over to the car.

Then he cranked it up! He put in in neutral and blipped the throttle so I could hear the turbo spool up, then let it idle for a few minutes while I looked at a few things. I was so stoked I pooed myself. Then I stuck it in one of those "hermetically sealed" envelopes and shipped it to Casey C.O.D. :D

I am still cautiously optimisitic though because they have to bring it to temperature, bleed the coolant system and change the oil & filter. Then it's onto the dyno to break the motor in and check it for leaks. :thumbsup

I'll let you guys know how the break-in goes, and post some video as soon as I get my new computer (old one died).

and i will be ready to accept the charged of teh COD :).....congratuations buddy, so they tricked you into hearing it run....thats awesome, just adjust the timing properly once it idles smooth, then take it to break in on teh dyno.

so i can expect to see you at the road course february of 2009 maybe.....

Don't open the package over a wedding dress, white table cloth, etc.

They already adjusted teh timing. :thumbsup Funny thing is, it was only after this that I learned how to do it (meaning by turning the retightening the CAS). :supercool
