just being curious, would it be cheaper to build up a ka24 to 350whp as twards an front clip sr20? I was originally going to swap in a sr20 but im thinkin more on the lines of just turbo my KA,

How does everyone deal with the SR when it comes to a smog? Thats the only thing holding me back from swaping is having to mess around with the smog issues.

i cant use the search button I work on a goverment base and its lucky enough that i am able to get this far. and the best way to get an answer for the question is to ask the one you want answer to.. i dont feel like going to someones house sorting through search pages either. I dont have a home computer anymore.

i live in Cali, so smogging an SR is impossible without a smog hookup. i'd say throw a turbo on your KA, that way you dont have to worry about swapping and the headaches that come with it. plus, i think the KA will put down a bit more torque than an SR

i live up in eureka cali wich is a non smog zone, i just think for price wise the sr is a better deal sence it comes with 5 spd tranny and everything up front. but i may just do a 6 speed swap and turbo my KA

you are a serious idiot... if you are asking such a simple question without searching then you shouldnt be doing the build

the SR requires less fuel management/ fabrication /maintenance to support a turbo project

the KA to prevent it from going boom will cost you more $$ in the long run to maintain it as a daily

Both ways are gonna cost alot. Stock KA is kind of a gamble on holding the power. Id build the KA if i went this way. SR is a damn strong engine if done right too. Im pushing around 375+whp with mine on stock block and headgasket. Engine runs flawless. Perfect compression and gets 28mpg. Tuning is the biggest thing with the SR holding together but thats with any engine really.

either or sounds pretty good, sounds more like a preference thing. I might just mod on the KA for now until I decide to swap, My KA has 230,XXX on it wich is why I want to swap to an SR. Either way I still like both and will be a hard decision when it comes.

Throw a metal headgasket on that KA and a turbo. Its all in the tune on how long its guna last. I had a KA with 140000. Put a turbo on it, stock everything. did 377whp. drove it around for almost a year until I sold it. had a very safe JWT tune.

If you have a 240 now with a ka motor in good condition, buy another ka, bolt it to an engine stand and build it or buy an sr and do the same. For high revs get the sr. For low revving torque build a ka. I like the high revs so I went with an sr.

For 350whp you'll need at least 600cc injectors (you don't want 550's, they'll be at 100% duty cycle), a front mount i/c, a z32 mafs (unless you go map sensor), a metal head gasket, cams, upgraded valve springs, fuel management (ROM tune w/ safc to fine tune, stand alone or piggy back) and I would also recommend upgrading the rods and pistons. Oh and at least a gt2871R turbo or t3/t4 top mount (with heat shield for brake master cylinder) and a 3" exhaust all the way through. All that plus whatever motor you go with plus dyno tuning. I prolly forgot a few things because I'm tired :D

a ka-t will run hot and be unreliable, and prolly break
an sr takes very little modding to get to those numbers and u can pass smog with an sr its been done. i say sr,
ka-t's are fun till they break, but they will break, sr's can be fairly reliable. who gives a shit about everyone having one. everyone has one for a reason

where did u get that info from? Turbo KAs can be extremly reliable.

Its pushing it using a stock KA to put down 350whp or more. Yes it can take it but its a question of how long. Why not spend the extra money and put in a set of CP pistons or something so you know its gonna be reliable. I think the KA is an awesome motor to boost, it just needs a couple extra things to run reliably. After i go top mount with my SR, id like to use the 2871R on my SOHC KA. I think it would make for a real torquey car.

you dont have to touch bottom end. and u can run stock cams
You don't have to but I recommended a rebuild because SR motors are 10-15 years old. If you rebuild the motor before you drop it in it will be less expensive in the long run. I wouldn't want to put a 10-15 year old motor through the stress of 350whp without thorough preparation. But that's just my preference.

Regarding the cams I like to make max power at minimum boost. It's possible to reach 350whp without cams but it will require more boost than with upgraded cams.

Whoever gave you that information is taking you for a long ride. Check out www.ka-t.org There are cool and reliable KA-T's running 350whp all day long. KA or SR, as long as it's built the right way it will make power.

I have a friend with an s14 that has a built ka-t, t3/t4, 740cc injectors, jwt ecu, safc, z32 mafs arias pistons, pauter rods and an s13 smic :eek4: running 15 lbs of boost. The car put down 270 reliable whp. I can't wait to see what the car will do with a front mount i/c.
