I'm not sure if that actually will work LongGrain. For the Viscous type diff to lock up, the wheels need to be spinning at a certain speed. The greater the speed, the more resistance the fluid will build up to oppose that movement and eventually it'll lock up. At least to my understanding.
That's why VLSD's are considered sloppy and very slow in reacting (in locking up) compared to the clutch type LSD's.
TurbLu,
Easiest way to check is to jack up the car and look for an orange sticker on the side of the casing.
or (this is straight from NICO)
Check digit 18 in the model # (not the VIN!). <-- the very LAST number in the model ID (which is stamped on the left hand side on the firewall in the engine bay)
For Feb '94 - July '95: A, C, or E, = LSD
F, or "-" = NO LSD
For July '95 - July '96: A, C, or F = LSD
B, D, or "-" = NO LSD
US S13's didn't come with VLSD's. Canadian 91+ S13's and S14's ALL had VLSD's. So if the previous owner had a canadian car, you have a VLSD or he swapped it in.
