I have 10K to spend from my totalled Talon TSI AWD and I was looking to get a 240sx. I have 10k to spend from the coverage/saved money and I was wondering what everyone would do if they were starting from scratch.

I've really been looking into the RB25 swap, even though it is a little more work, but can anyone tell me what price range I'll be in if I chose to go with a s13, and the RB swap? What if I get it swapped by a shop that specializes in SR20's? Will it be more work to swap the RB?

What would you do if you were me?
Thanks

Well a 240sx is a good car to start off with. If your into the drifting scene as well as racing.... Looks too. Um... as for the skyline engine. I don't see much use in having that. TOo much power and too much money to fabricated the car to even have one. Its approx about $10,000 for the engine and to get it working. Not including the car. I'd say get a SR20DET. Your looking at spending about $3,000 for the car, and about $3,000 for the motor. Thats not bad. And you still have 4 grand to play around with. YOu can get the car running really low times with all that money. I know a skyline motor may sound cool and all but no use... :)

An RB25 does not cost 10,000. Realisticly expect to pay about 5-6k for the RB though. The rest of the money will go to putting it in. So if you really want an RB, I would suggest saving up a few more grand to get the car, and use the 10,000 to make sure the swap goes smoothly. I also would reccoment the SR or even a KAT over the RB. Either way, you're looking at a fast car.

Night sells the kit for 4000 shipped, and thats including the driveline. The install is suppose to be exactly the same as the SR, but a few changes.

I will have to have a shop install it though, thats the only problem.

What year 240SX should I look for?

240sx has a coupe and a fastback. People call em a hatchback but thats not technically correct.

89-90 Fastback has a ugly bumper cover and doesn't have the sayum power steering equipment and such things because it has the SOHC KA24E.

91-93 Fastback has a much nicer bumper cover, and all the stock power steering lines and pump will work w/ an SR, unlike the earlier car. This year car also has a DOHC KA24DE which is a much nicer motor.

I don't know much about the coupes but the engine bay stuff is the saym as the fastback. the coupe has the sayum front end on it as the 240sx which looks very out of place. After the coupe has had the stock S13 Silvia front end conversion on it it looks good (as origonally intended)

don't need to worry about getting a 89 or 90 dude. I know I don't like my bumper anyways... but figure this. I'm probaly gonna get some simple body kit anyways so thats no prob... The only difference in the body between 89-01 and 91-93 is that the front bumper... Thats it. And for the engine its SOHC DOHC. But that shouldn't matter to much if your gonna get a new motor dude... Doesn't make a real difference.

Oh, well I'd prefer the DOHC because of where the PS is located, it'd be easier to set up the RB, thanks for clearing it up though. If they are the same with the exception of the bumper, the front bumper must be interchangable with the 89-91 correct?

ok u wanna no what to do with that money, i got it all planed out

go find a non running 240 for get the sr20 swap, that shouldn't be more than 3500.

then take the rest of the money, go to ur check book (or the bank and get a money order if u don't have checks) and write me a check for the rest and then pm me for my address. put the check in an envelope made out to me and drop it in the mail box. and there, ur dune. u got a quick car and u acomplished ur goal of spending ur 10k wisely :D

but yeah id say go with the sr20 :69

Why is everyone saying go with the SR? The RB25 clearly has about 40 more HP and .5 more displacement and can handle more boost/hp on the stock bottom end. It's not a matter of fabricaiton or install, I have a shop who can do it for 700. The install is only suppose to be a little different tho (easier wiring, minor modifications). And they say they have done it twice on one of the mechanic's car.

people fear what they do not understand;) ...hehe

nahhh.. .. i think that its a matter of "do you really need the RB?"
the RB sounds like a good idea, especially if you are going to work it down the road...nice stout bottom end and tranny. i think now that guys like Night are making information public, you will see a lot more of the swaps. It will take the path of many other motor swaps...it needs time to evolve. Remember when throwing a b18 into a hatch was "innovative." now everyone and there mom has one. how many honda swaps are available now....tons of variations. also, they are progressivley making more and more power. i think it will just take time for the RB series to catch on, and once it does, it should be a real contender here in the U.S. if more and more shops see that there is a demand, more shops will start doing the swaps, and prices are then driven down through competition. things should get interesting over the next year or so. ive seen lots of optimism toward the RB swap.

now in my case ive considered doing it, and havent ruled it out yet. however, i personally am not looking to go nuts with power so im not sure if it would be right for me. im aiming for around 280rwhp or so. id like to see how far i could take a blacktop s14 (most likely the engine im gonna go with simply because its newer and has the t28). after that goal, im probably gonna want more power. its only natural.
