hey guys, i want to put an engine in my 1991 240sx thats not turbocharged and has around 190-200hp out of the box. whats the best engine to put in that can do that? :12dunno

- it doesnt have to be jdm
- i want as little custom fab as possible
- as little future issues as possible
- anythign v4 or v6 is good! as long as i keep it rwd.

Does It have to be a nissan engine?
The only engine I can think of thats N/A, Light, rwd, and a 4 cyl that puts over 200 hp Is the F20C, or F22C honda s2000 engine.

doesnt have to be nissan. as long as its...cheap or as much as a sr20det. and installing and custom fab isnt a bitch.

if i stay with my sr20de, i know it has high compression. can i still run maybe..7psi of boost with not too much or a problem on stock internals?
if i can get 40-50hp out of it, itd be nice.

older chevy 4.3 90 degree V-6 very strong, reliable, and the ones I had in my s-10s were animals and bone stock (the one had 254K on it and would fry tire for blocks) plus you can ditch the fuel injection TB and swap over to a carb for easier swapping. If you wanted BDS makes a roots style supercharger for them too. Its basically a early LT1 with 2 cylinders hacked off.

im looking into this sr20ve swap sound nice but no info on what to do and get parts. i think we can use the sr20ve head from a sentra but from there im all messed up with info.i thought u sayed no turbo, so leave the sr20de and get a sr20det. is money the real issue u want to keep the sr20de? imma tell u what im doing so u can get an idea. i also have a sr20de and i feel its kinda slow put bolt ons. so now im buying a front clip(best bang for your buck) and swaping that in my 240 and taking the n/a sr out and trying to vtec it and run itbs. i am able to get front clips for about 2k so i sayed fuck it why not. if i were to turbo i would spend about 1k-1500 to make it safe. and if i were to vtec it maybe about 1-2k since i dont know where to start. so imma get turbo and see where i can go from there. relativitly cheap and plenty of accesable parts for it. good luck any questions just pm.

and just how are you gonna Vtec an SR20DET?

The VE head's are said to be diff. bolt patt. also what about oil passages solenoids wiring sensors and all the such...

so IDK if thats such a good idea

VG30DETT. that puts you at 300 out of the box :) I loved the engine when i had a 300zx i bet i would have really loved it in a 240. Besides they are wicked cheap compared to some other engines like the sr20det. You could have a front clip for around the same price as a nice sr20det

i dont want anything too old. and yea, money is the reason im trying to stay with what ihave. schools starting and ineed to supposrt myself for a few semesters.

and im hoping for an engine that has the best balance between power and economy. i want to get an average of 25mpg when driving normally and still be able to have some street fun.

i heard that i can change the head gasket or something on my sr20de and id be able to turbo it with less problems... if i can do that for cheap adn with reliability, i would go for that.. but until then, i believe that forums tell me the sr20de has high compression or something.

aftermarket headgasket and pistons can lower compression right?
how do i go about doing this and would it be cheaper than an engine swap? theres only about 60-70k miles on this engine

you could get a thicker head gasket to lower the compression slightly idk if it would be enough to do 7psi or whatever it is you were looking for. I asume since your car already has high compression it would make more power then an sr20det with the same boost and mods. So you could probably run less boost and have the same power as an sr20det I could be wrong though lol
