Hi, I am from Canada, and i am wondering, should i go for a 240 or skyline? I would rather have LHD, but i cant really find any rust-free cood condition 240's for under $4500.
Being in Canada, it is perfectly leagal to import skylines and drive them on the street, and i've found decent ones up for auction closing at less than $1000 CAD. HOWEVER, I am not to sure about shipping costs, risks, etc. and i kinda wanted a LHD car, especially a 240. If i get a 240, i'll eventually get an RB25DET swap and get a skyline front end (they just look sexier). If i get a skyline, it will already have the RB, but it's heavier, not a hatchback, and uglier from the rear.

UGH I DUNNO WHAT TO DO HELP ME HERE:gaah:

who are you looking to import a car through? there are some pretty sketchy places and i know a few people that have imported cars that look fine in the pictures but when they get here there pretty beat up.

Import Concern, Inc. — Japanese Used Vehicle Importer is a legit place. a bunch of my friends have imported cars from there and there always clean. if you go to the broker stock link at the top of the page it lists cars they have, or else you can just call.

the nice thing about importing cars from japan it seems like the bodys are always in good shape as far as rust goes.. but you never realy know how the car was treated. What part of canada do you live in? if you live on the east coast it will be real hard to find a 240 with no rust

I live right in Calgary :) there's rain, but as long as the car is washed every now and then, rust USUALLY isnt a problem. after all, we gravel our roads instead of salt them in the winter. but theres quite a few 240ès for sale, its just the only ones that are under 4500 do have rust. i had found one for 2800 w/o rust at 350000k, but it got sold already.
so i might wind up importing a skyline. and hows that website? like, does it cover shipping, etc?

nope ive never heard of a company that covers shipping, they have shipping listed on the cars though.

BTW, are the ones in Broker Stock already in Canada? or ones they own but are still in Japan?

and the skyline right at the top is niiiiice :) idc about scratches and scuffs, i can get my cous to paint it for me, i just have to pay for the paint :)

oh yah they set up any shipping. if it doesnt have the price listed for how much it is just call them. and some are in canada and some are still in japan. i think it usually says if its in canada.

im not saying you should go with a skyline or anything. im just saying if your going to import one this is, as far as i have seen, a good company to go through

240sx is less weight there for better power to weight.
If you want to turn heads and don't care about performance then yes.GTST will be just fine.
supras and gtst are kings of carshows.not the gts4 tho.Since its awd as well as the gtr

Depends on what motor is in the 240.

And any skyline is good at carshows because of all the nutswinging fanboys. And gtst's are great performers, don't get me wrong... they just aren't worth paying much more than 240 prices for. I love RB20's

Are skylines really that bad? Cause I could get a '95 r33 skyline gts-t, so it would have the RB25DET (Canada has the 15 year rule) for the same price as a decent 240 with a stock KA24DE

So is it just the R32 with shitty suspension or R33 as well?

#14 ·
All I'm saying is, comparing a R32 GTST with a S13 with swap or an R33 GTST with a S14 with swap... the skylines only advantage is the looks.

They feel the same. And while the S-chassis front suspension is far from being great, the R-chassis share the same front suspension as the Z32's, which isn't bad either, but less desireable IMO(looking at it from a preformance aspect). Not that it can't be modified to work well, Its personal preference.

Friend of mine has an R32 gtst he drifts in the states, and complains about caster and camber adjusting with that design and wants to switch to schassis parts.

I'd say to get a 240 because they're nicer but it's up to you. If you do go for importing a car try to go for a better one that's more expensive and has lower mileage because a lot of the time if you buy those really cheap ones for like $1000 you never know how they're gonna be because you can't test drive them and for all you know it could have been just a drift car putting the engine through a lot. Shipping is usually $1000-$1500 depending on the company but that's if you want it just on the deck of the ship. If you actually want a crate for your car that actually holds it in there good it usually costs $2000-$3000 to ship. That also includes only shipping to vancouver so you'd either have to pay another $400-$500 to get them to send it to Calgary or you'll have to drive/fly there and drive it back.

there are a couple silvias around where i live, one of them being my friends convertable.. so sexy

that made no sense at all... the reason the skyline is front heavy is the engine... which your planning to drop into the 240 and make it heavy as well, doh...

your planning to put an R34 front on a fastback?????? imean, i cant see any of the 3 wide and low fronts looking good on a narrow fastback. its gonna look like a penis... or squid... or, you get the idea.

why you would think skylines shipped over seas, costing only 1000 would have any less rust (to say the least) than a crappy 240 domestically? $4500 + you get what you paid for. skyline or not.

how doesnt it make sense? he is asking our opinions about 240's and skylines. do you not understand him or what?

and where did he say r34 front end? he only said skyline.

#23 ·
K, well first of all, the swap only actually adds about 90lbs, the car itself is heavier. And it would be an r33 front end on the 240. I've seen it. Sexy as fuck

and secondly, I'm not allowed to get a new car till spring :( apparently I have to wait till my brother can drive my current integra before I can upgrade so we don't have an "uninsured car" on the driveway.

So by that time I'll have about $8000
A rust-free low-mileage R33 Skyline GTS-T will be:
$3500 car
$3000 shipping
$1500 upgrades (coilovers/ sway bars?)

And rust-free mid-mileage 240SX (S13)
$3500-4500 car (depends how long I wait for a dece one)
$3500-4500 upgrades (coilovers, sway bars, then rest is put towards saving for an RB25DET swap)

#24 ·
link to said gts for 3500?

and 4500 for coilovers/sway bars/rb25 swap? i think you need to do more research dude.. unless you get meeeaaan hook ups

#25 ·
I haven't done really any research on coilovers/swaybars, but I had said rest is put towards SAVING UP FOR rb swap. I've done a bit of research on that, and I've had prices show up from 4-7k for the swap, so I'm hoping 6-8k will do

I'll edit in a few seconds with a skyline
