240sx to 180sx Build-New Pics 3-26-07

Ok I bought this 93' 240 Hatch super hicas model on ebay back in March of
05'. It was a perfectly good, clean running 240sx and I started to tear it down in April of '06.

First went the motor and I decided to do a right hand drive conversion to make a complete 180sx Type X.

I then bought my blacktop sr20det. That is not installed yet.

RHD conversion

After doing the RHD conversion I am now at a stand still. I have no money ($5.00 in my bank account), I owe my parents $2000 and I still need at least $1500 in parts. So far including the car and what I've got so far the build is up to 8K. I expect to be to 10 or 11K to have it in nice running condition.

whore yourself out to some rich folk and keep building, since you did the rhd conv already you better get the windows the rest of the small details...
good job
good luck

I don't think it would be cheaper. Most legalized 180's go for about 12 - 15k and they are not easy to track down, especially living in NE.

As for doing it, The way I had it done was to put it on an alignment machine, cut out the area that has the holes that you need. I did it this way because apparently you need the cowel too because of the fresh air duct. And it was easier for the wiper motor conversion. So you cut out the cowel and the area of the firewall that you need (you might break your windshield) . TIG or MIG weld it in while its on the alignment machine and there ya go. I TIG welded mine just because I thought it would be a better weld that way.

I'm curious if there is information posted anywhere about exactly where you cut the firewall to do the RHD swap.

i can mig, haven't tried tig'ing yet. But it sounds pretty straight forward. I'm sure the shop I work at would let me do it if I could get it done in a timely fashion.

you should make it a stock color that the type X had.

seams like alot of work just to sit on the other side of the car.

O yea I'm around the 60th and L area Omaha, how about you? I'm not really sure where to look for a 240sx, have you tried nestreetscene people? O but I do know of a place between 42nd and 48th and L that has a white 240 and its either an 89 or 90 hatch. If your going east it would be on the right side. You can't see it from the street though.

Deep Pockets

Well I'm bored so I'm going to post what I propose the total is going to cost me, just to get it to run.

Left on loan for SR20 - $2000
Clutch - $140
Chassis Wiring (from Jarco) - $550
Driveshaft (driveshaft shop.com) - $380
Radiator (ebay) - $230
SMIC intercooler and piping - $100
Misc hoses etc... - $200
carpet - $150
downpipe - $90
Total - $3840

Over the next 8 months
Insurance -$560.
Gast - $500

So I'm looking at a grand total of $4900 by the end of May. I will have to work 35 hours a week at $7/hr. in order to make this kind of mney and be a student.

I noticed after the fog of the paint was gone that we had missed a little bit, but thats ok its just primer, Silver Frost Metallic paint is tomorrow. Were gonna have to but some bolts mixed in with the paint so it can keep mixing otherwise we'll get gray streaks of metallic.

I bought 180sx decal covers that go over the 240sx on the window. It looks good, you really wouldn't be able to tell unless you were right next to it. Now I need that center tail piece, kouki lights are to damn much.

why not go buy slingshot shots from a sporting goods store...
I wanted it to look nice and the paint cost me just as much.
