I had orginally planned on saving up for an RB25det motor, but one of my friends is getting rid of his 350 from a firebird and he will pretty much give it to me, but i'm just curious if there is enough room before we start thinking about doing this, i just want to see if you guys know whether or not it will be worth the trouble, any comments will be appreciated

ive heard of people putting 350s into s13s. they say that theres enough room you just have to fab up some motor mounts and tranny mounts, and depending on the transmission, cut the trans tunnel. i was going to put in my dads 350 into my rx7, but could go through with it. i just love rotaries to much to do that.

i know of a few people that have put 350's in older datsun 280's and if built right they will FLY through the straights, but in the twisties thats a different story.

Might want to consider gas mileage too, a built 350 doesnt get great gas mileage, and i dont know what kind a built RB would get, but my guess is that it would be pretty good.

Also depends on the sound you want, i think hearing a nice growl coming from the back of a nissan when you leave a honda in the dust would be pretty cool:D:D:D

Alright, here's the deal. an RB sits 80% in front of the struts...thats BAD IMO for weight distribution....a LS1..aluminum block aluminum heads and T56 tranny doesnt weigh all that much at all....it only adds 125lbs total to a 240Z and improves the car across the board...

IMHO If you want to put a V8 in it, do it, then show everyone you can do what they said you cant better than they can.

Actually, twin turbo V8s arent that much.

LS1 + T56 + wiring harness from a firebird all would be around 1200 tops

turbo kit would be around 4000

bigger injectors are like 500 for some 42# lucas 009s and LS1Edit is free...a MSD ignition upgrade and an intercooler and McLeod clutch and flywheel later....you're at what most of us probably have into their SRs...maybe cheaper.

do it, if you get afraid of doing it in a 240 then do it in a 240Z, 240Z would be easier due to more info out there on the swap, its been done a lot already.

for the 240sx it would still be nice, the whole wieght distribution IMO is not proven, most assume jumping +3L and doubling your cylinders would mess up the wieight distribution a lot, but I am not sure how much it would mess it up.

Do it and either prove everyone wrong or right. If it works you still go out on top just for the fact that you accomplished it, if you are going for autocross you better become a good driver before you do any engine mods becuase you'll be in SM with that kind of mod.

For the wow factor you'll get a lot of wows when done, and you'll get props from the people who hate the idea.

actually weight distribution will be effected very very very minutely. like i said before, the LS1/T56 combo doesnt weigh much at ALL considering its all aluminum.

the RB is a inline 6...2 more cylinders than the SR20...which also moves it 66% farther forward as a whole than the SR20 would sit in the engine bay. a V8 is 2 inline fours mated to a single crank and cam...Its just a bit wider thats all..it'll effect lateral distribution a lot more than anything else.

Heres the logic for the RB vs SR percentage:

SR - 4 RB - 6 ratio of SR to RB is 4:6 or 2:3 which is 66%

It could actually kill SM class if you really wanted it to. TT V8s make 800hp on pump gas day in and day out...drive like stock too.

where the fuck are you pulling that number???? a cracked block and a non-rebuildable t56 may cost that much but if you think you can get a running-condition LS1 and T56 for that much then you are smoking some DAMN good crack

o also if you boosted a stock LS1 youd be in for some serious complications.

Yeah some SRP pistons and eagle rods arent that expensive...

local pick and pull has a LS1/T56/Wiring harness for 1200 right now...guess they're smoking some good crack too then eh?

Check out www.hinsonsupercars.com .... They have done it in a RX7 and are seeing 1/4 mile times of 11.4 seconds. That was NA. The RX7 is slightly heaver than the 240 to begin with. These guys say the car actually weighs in better with the LS1 and still gets very good gas mileage. They prefer the 6 speed manual trans combo on the LS1. I talked with them about putting one in my S13 if the KA was dead and the engine compartment would hold it fine. Various supports and brackets would have to be fabricated but this Mazda stilll handles very close to the factory setup with a whole lot more power.

And I must say there is nothing sweeter than a V8 hiding in a ricer...IMHO.

thanks for all the replies so far, but if i planned on going forced induction i would much rather get a supercharger on a v8 instead of twin turbos, and i would only need to cover the cost of the tranny, computer, harnesses, the custom mounts and what ever else might be involved, because my friend will jsut give me the motor, and he has a cherry picker too so we would probably be doing most of the install ourselves, but thanks again for the replies, i like reading both points of veiw, it makes me keep thinking about it even more

It's a Nissan, so you should get a Nissan motor. oh well it's your money. I have a freind that is throwing a built chevy 350 w/ 150 shoot of Nitrous in his Datsun 260z. It's going to be nice.......It's a little easier for me to take in an older car with a American motor than a farely new car with one in it.

then id suggest you go and buy it right now! a stock LS1 and T56 combo in running order goes for 4000 on ebay and through personal sales. i got a great deal on my T56 for 300 bux but it needed rebuilding before i could use it, so after 700 bux of rebuilding, i got a 1800$ trans for 1000$. if you think you can get that stuff from the local pick and pull id do it in a heart beat if i had some $$ laying around.
