So i have a 96 auto and recently got the engine and 5spd tranny (still together) plus the ecu and etc. from a 97 that the guy didn't need after he swapped an sr20 into his 240.

so the question is if i swap the engine and tranny will i still need a 96 manual ecu or will the 97 ecu work?

You want to run the 96 ecu in your car with your 96 harness.... you have to do some tranny wiring... it's not that bad. I'd also say you need to swap out the intake manifold but I don't think you do seeing as how it is a OBD-II car. The 96 ecu will give u some advantages though btw, no rev limit or speed cut.
