No comment on the pic. I have a helmet and plan to use it. I signed up online for the AutoX in a week and a half. Not sure what a PAX class is but I think I will be AS+N. It will be my first time...aww.

Going in a few to work out for the second time. Shoulders and abs are still a bit sore, but they will get used to the routine. I be stylin' my Nike DryFit.

Just a quick update...

We're expecting a Christmas baby! Woot! haha
congrats man!

my little girl Natalie was going to be a christmas baby! but we talked them into taking her before that. they took her on the 20th and was home on the 24th for xams with the family. best xmas gift i ever had.

Congrats Boyd.

Back from the gym. Did a bit of lifting, sort of maxed out to see where I am starting at on different things and jotted the numbers down. Then walked 2.75mi / 40min.

I recommend working out to exhaustion for the first few weeks Todd. Military fitness experts in the Marines have said for years that pushing yourself to exhaustion (but not lifting too heavy) works best to increase endurance as well as really show you where you stand, and where to set your goals for the next few weeks/month of working out.

And congratulations to Boyd! I hope you and your wife get a Christmas baby!

i don't recommend working out to exhaustion the first few weeks. especially if you haven't done so in years. you're just asking to hurt yourself......you should work on form and doing things correctly before adding weight or sets.

After you have gotten over that initial few weeks of getting back into the swing of things then i'd say do whatever you feel works best for you. lift heavy, lift light, whatever. but just dont do it when you havent been in there for a while. would you run a marathon after not having ran in a few years? didn't think so.

While that is true, working toward exhaustion simply means working to the max. It is quite smart, as long as you don't lift to much (if you're lifting weights). The focus is what you said, doing things correctly and isolating your muscles properly, however, working toward exhaustion won't hurt you if done right.

Case in point: DON'T LIFT WEIGHTS. The best exercises when starting out are pushups, assisted pullups, squats, calf rises, crunches, reverse crunches, and lower back exercises. All done w/o weights. Why? Because your muscles need to be worked lightly at high reps (i.e. toward exhaustion) to start with to get your body in the proper motions for work. If you want to use weights, have at it, but I've found that body-weight exercises and core work w/o weights yield the best results toward getting a body ready for working out with weights, and I know enough personal trainers with regular gym fitness or military back grounds who would agree.

Call it pansy, call it crazy, but the fact of the matter is, it works. And also bear in mind that working out to exhaustion for someone starting out, isn't like working out to exhaustion for myself or Keith. We might max out on endurance exercises (like pushups/squats/crunches) at 100 reps, where as Todd might want to stick to 30 reps just b/c he hasn't worked out in a little while.

THANK YOU.
I couldn't remember the proper terminology for anything. Ugh. Need to quit watching TV and read more books on such things. Maybe then such good information will be engraved in my brain.
Also, my apologies on not specifying what I meant in the post before last. I should've specified calisthinetics when referring to endurance workouts that involve minimal bodyweight lifting.

In other news:
My Hoosier tire end table has a new home with Shan. We hung out briefly today and had a pretty good chat about Macbooks, Intel, NVidia, exercise, and how Miata people in general seem to think their $3k cars are worth entirely to much....hahaha. I hope to take advantage of that market when I sell mine too though. hehehe

installed a timing set today on the budget autox project. still got to bleed the lifters and set the timing with the light. also going to do a tune up on it, clean the TB.

well almost go the gauges installed when it started raining. just got to hook up the oil sending unitl and drill and tap for the water temp sensor.

Cool. I cleaned up the S13 and almost finished installing the under-dash parts. All wiring and such is finished too. Now to put new oil in, and crank it....Friday.

And oh yay, its raining. Oh well. Thats life. Off to work I go.
