alright im getting tired of this crap i see it all the time like 31132 threads on it but why the he!! do ppl think its not possible to drift an automatic like wtf r they retarted

I don't know why people think its impossible, I like drifting my auto cause it sets me apart from the rest of the drifters, I'm sure it is harder then manual though. I beat on my tranny hard, suprisenlgy its still alive cause I bought it with a fried torque converter but its still holding up, I think the only way you can really kill it is if you do neutral drops.

I don't think there are 31132 threads on this :smacked49 . If you actually read through the ~10 threads you would have known this has already been discussed a few times. Like A2THaK said, it's not impossibe. I've read that it may kill transmissions. I don't really know since I don't drift with a 5-speed :supercool .

Import auto plus anything but normal driving= bad things. Just kidding mostly.

Domestic autos, typically, are just a better design.

By better I mean our autos last just as long if not longer than everyone else but it doesnt cost you an arm and a leg to fix.

Really the only enemy to an auto is heat. If you keep the heat down you're mostly alright. That and shifting about 3grand all the time isnt really all that good for them either.

I agree that drifting an auto is definetly harder. How about an auto plus open differential. kidding kidding, thats just silly!

Do you guys really use the clutch kick that often. I always thought of it as kind of a last resort thing, like using the E-brake.

Im more of a "feint" or "gas the shit out of it" kind of guy though. hehe I just think doing the clutch kick excessively would tear down your drive train pretty damn fast.

if you think both are last resorts, then u obviously dont drive an S13, they under steer soo badly

Yep I sure dont. I guess not so much the e-brake as a last resort. But hearing the word "clutch kick" just makes me cringe. Especially having a dad who owns a tranny shop and seeing what messing around does to a transmission. But I guess if you've got the money and dont mind shelling some out occasionally for that stuff, more power to you.

But I guess no one would be drifting if they didnt like spending money on that stuff though right.

I would say you obviously hav'nt drifted a 5speed 240. I just got my 93 Convertible 2 nights ago. You can only get those in auto. Ofcoarse I have tried drifting in it already. All I can say is theres no comparison with a 5speed 240. Now take heed, the power is there, but the lack of a clutch to "kick" to bring the rpm up real fast to brake traction just kills all the fun/skill of it all. I drove a 90 240 hatch auto for a year and a half befor doing a motor swap w/ 5speed conversion. Nothing wrong with auto drifting, 5speed drifting is so much more fun/easy.

Well you could do what one of my friends does in his ranger. This awsome technique is called "neutral drop drifting". :rotflmao It basically what it says. As you approach the corner you put it in neutral, rev the shit out of it, and drop it into drive. He's only tried it on gravel, and I guess it works! :thumbsup Not to sure how long the transmission will last doing this kind of thing. hehe

He's on these boards. I dont know his SN though.

(might be an old thread, but im not letting a punk bitch insult me like that) lol

This whole fucking thread = GAY

My contribution:

Auto drifting has grown in popularity in Japan recently because guys want to use luxo-sedans instead of 240's and shit. So there's a bunch of cats in Chasers and Mark II's with pissed off 1J's with autos tearing up the good spots. Kinda funny, nothing new, definitely not worth a thread unless your posing and want to brag about how great of an auto drifter you are :greddy:

that will blow the tranny if you do it enough/rev it too hard. its similar to revving it in neutral and putting it in drive when the car is stopped, but less force acting on the trans because it's already moving

mike peters (bubba drift) spoke about this on supraforums. basically said you need a lot of trans coolers. although as stated earlier, american transmissions (esp older trans w/o overdrive) are much more stout compared to import transmissions.

he says he uses feint a lot, also said not to give it gas while pulling on the ebrake (duh) um... forgot what else... if i feel like it i'll go back on there and pull the thread

bubba drift is also one of the slowest drifters...could this be because of the auto...hmm i dont know...hes got power...and enough skill, yet everyone says he slow....he needs a 5spd
i dont know exactly, i can only speculate but im sure part of it has to do that he only has a 3 sp trans... on those transmissions the gear ratio's are somewhat close and they are all pretty close. The gear ratios is as follows. I believe he's running a Th-350 or a TH-400

they sell aftermarket od systems for chevy's and i dont know... maybe other transmissions, basically you can configure them in anyway you want, you can turn a 3sp into a 6sp. check it out @ http://www.gearvendors.com/

i'm sure if he had better gear ratios he would be much faster.

also, his car is about 3,200 lbs, you have to remember that when coming out of a turn the heavier car will always lose more speed

but seriously, you can't deny the fact that he's an incredible driver, i mean come on, the total bill on the car to date is $9,000.
