OK, well after a while of debating, I'm keeping the car, so might as well get one of these going.

For those that don't know, the name came from here: YouTube - The intro Ace Combat 5 The Unsung War

So, let's get through some back story/pictures.

Sold my STi, needed a new toy. Found a Kouki in NY with 96k for 6k. Auto, stock. Too good to be true? A little. The seller neglected to mention any of the body imperfections, which every and I mean EVERY panel has. But, being it was a 5 hour drive up there, and I could live with it, took it home. Got it home, gave the engine a bath, and called it a day.

Image

Felt ambitious, so I gave her a complete once-over with some compound and a waxing. Still looked beat, but a shiny beat.

Now, we can't have stock suspension, nonono. Especially not when the seller also sold me some Nismo R-Tune coilovers on the cheap ;) Nice little stance now.

Image

More online goodies. Jeff is the shit at 240sxmotoring, seems to always have a good deal on something I want :p Case in point:
Image

Yes, I know they're mismatched, which damn near gave me OCD, but when you book 3 weeks out for an alignment and parts are backordered, you make due.
Image

Off to my favorite Subaru shop for a little alignment TLC. Makes me smile knowing they're smart enough to put weight in the drivers seat to compensate for you.
Image

So after all that, you get hungry right?
Image

Got sick of leaks, so took care of that.
Image

Nom nom nom....matte black. Anywho.

Again, boredom sets in, so got rid of the crappy radio the seller threw in, and got a less-crappy one (read: Local, iPod, cheap)
Image

To go with that less-crappy radio, had to get some CF wrap I loved so much before. Comes out much better than people think, provided you take your time and do it right.
Image

Random insert: Joys of DC/VA commuting. 100k miles. w00t!!!
Image

Stock rotors dying, scored new ones on Zilvia for $50/shipped. Can't beat that.
Image

Finally (Read: $1,600 later) assembled all the parts I wanted for my 5spd swap. Dropped it off at MA-M, can't really complain. Was only my first time with them, so we'll see how next time goes. See if they get a winning streak going.
Image

Argued with the Isis short shifter for about a day or 2, finally said "screw it. Live with the rattles."
Tried a dozen different fixes, some I was even impressed I thought of, but oh well. I'll get a B&M later.

NOW! Onto today. Still reading? Or are you just skimming for pics by now?
Picked up some Prosport gauges. Big with Subies because of color matching. Plus, local and warranty. Can't complain. Also picked up an ATI frog pod to go with them. Gauge stuck out, but black tape and the hood blended it in nicely. All was well, till I bought more.
Image

Image

Saw an R33 with a gauge pod I liked, so I went and got a Glowshift Tripple Gauge Pod off ebay. No, don't buy it, but for 15 shipped what do I care. Took some serious custom mounting, it's more like a 1.25 DIN (lengthwise). Took a few hours, ran the harnesses together with some solder and heat shrink. Drilled a hole in the firewall and routed the wires through a grommet, and hooked it all up. A couple 2nd degree burns (Note: don't miss the handle on your soldering iron) and some patience and tada!

So, now you're completely caught up. Future plans? Door panels are off, redoing them in suede tomorrow. Headliner maybe next weekend. Long term? Well, long-er anyway. SR motors coming up here fairly soon, with plenty of $ goodies. Stay tuned campers.

Lmao. I'm not installing them. This is why we have a body shop... :p And decide when I get to that point. While down the road.

what are you serious??? u can change the front end, but cant install a wide body. its like installing a body kit. idk, it fairly easy, some custom fitment has to be done, but for reals???

well, on any note, ill find out what that stuff is called that way you can look into it, and let your body shop guy know about it. i dont know how good they are w/ this type of stuff, but a lot of people just put it on w/ rivets and kind the rivets w/ bondo or fiberglass; and eventually will lead to cracking. anywho, it wont hurt to look into it. besides, it'll be like a few weeks, my friend just went up north and wont be down until then. as soon as i know, you will know.

Don't bother with looking. I'm not doing it. My body guy is the same guy that took my STi down to half a car and rebuilt it from the B-pillar back after a race crash before I owned it. He knows what he's doing.

In any case, it's going to be raw rivets, no molding or

Now. Onto the quote. You DO realize there's a huuuuuuuuuuuuge difference between bolting up and nudging into place a used pre-fitted fenders, with OEM hood and bumper....and cutting/welding the rear quarters and fitting up the kit right? You cut and added flares, we're cutting welding and adding entire quarter panels. It's a wee bit more than installing a body kit....

Not the first rodeo into body work. It's the same as engine internals. Sure I have a general idea of how I would do it, but for a reasonable price, I'm going to let the guys with years and years of experience and the specialized tools do it right. That large of a panel, you'll see in a second if it's messed up.

..s15 front end swap is a walk in the park compared to molding on rear over fenders.. can hardly compare the 2 lol. I've done both.

Seen the work his body guy did, he is more then capable Baha.

#1,495 ·
^Haha that's right, forgot I showed you the during of half-car. Rear overs will be riveted and glued though, not molded.

In other news, finished the headlight wiring and tidying up of the harnesses. Looks OEM now. (Right plugs, right lengths of harness, taped, etc)

i get where your coming from. i've helped my friend with his, and it seemed easy from when we did it; and thats how he compared it to me. anywho, thats some good shit, if you got a good body guy. its hard to find good people here, which is why i'd prefer to do my own work, and with a friends help from time to time. a lot of shops around here rip people off. over charge for little stuff. makes me a little scared to find out how much would be charged for a big accident here lol.

Ordered:
Origin front fenders
Quality HID kit
Bumper retainer bar

Delivered today: BNIB Oem bumper from dealer. Despite giant FRAGILE stickers on the box, something hard and sharp apparently hit the box during shipping, and UPS dumps it and doesn't even ring the bell. Huge hole in box, and a giant gouge in the bumper. Least the dealership didn't hesitate to send me the shipping label and refund. Yay trusted venders.

Still, no fresh bumper for BBQ :(

In other news, tracked down my body work guy, so I might get the current bumper worked on a little and fresh coat for it and the hood.

Lee's also backed up a solid month, after which the crash bar will be coming in.

Back to crazy work days, updates when I feel like it, lol

Ok. Quickie update since it's late.

Dealership found me a new bumper, so that should be here next week.
HID's get here tomorrow.
Bumper retainer is here.

Tonight's addition:

Image

Sanded texture off, painted OEM Millennium Jade to match the valve cover. Came out looking sexy. Reminds me of the R34's painted console.

This weekend:
Install HID kit
Install bumper beam
Adjust LED kit to stabilize on bumps, order more ambers.
Trim FMIC piping and remount core closer in

#1,505 ·
Haha if by take care of them, you mean play around with predictable traction loss/gain, then yes :p

And yeah, it's getting painted as soon as the fenders get here from ze ocean ship.

Hokay. Nother fast update, as it's once again almost midnight, and I get up in 4.5 hours.

Totally forgot to get daylight pics of the console, maybe tomorrow.

HID's didn't come in.

Played with the LED's in the cluster, all work again and have uniform light.

Ordered a couple little aesthetic touches for the car, think they'll add some shiny factor.

OEM Bumper Retainer came in. This is probably the most important part of the front end swap. Why? Because now the fenders, bumper, and headlights are all connected by a single bar. But that's not even the important part!

Like most cars, it's had a fender bender or two, like the deer I piledrived. Headlight brackets and front end in general gets bent and warped easily.

S14 Kouki Brackets = S15 Brackets
Core Support mounts = same.

What's this add up to?

Image

Knowing where the mounting points are supposed to be when new, I was able to properly bend the brackets back to near-new spacing. Booya. Front end looks a lot better, will look baller with the crash bar taking the weight too.

Also figured out the easiest way to redo the FMIC setup. Woooo.

More tomorrow? Maybe.

You do know the RE-01R was the same price as the RE-11, around 200 a tire right?

Monk- Nope, I did it myself. Pieced together the info from the last decade of crappy info out there, as well as the 2 FSM's and got it working no sweat. One giant jigsaw puzzle of wires.

Anyway

New toys ordered:

-Redline shift boot custom made to work with my 15 knob
-Fuse cover:
Image

Caught the mail lady and got my HID's from custom HID conversions, HID kits, LED, CCFL specialists - retrosolutions . Expensive, but lifetime warranty and quality parts. In retrospect, wish I'd ordered the slims. Thought I had, must have changed my mind at some point. /shrug.

Too bright for pics of them on, will try to get some tonight. They're seeeeexy though. 6k bulbs.

Might have found a Kognition Sunroof Delete and standard headliner. Woooo

Ok, so I've read this from page 1 in the last 2 days after work. I've never liked S14s, being a S13 owner/fan. BUT, that being said, I am madly in lust with your car. When your posts started sounding like you were going to have to sell shit, I was bummed. Glad to see it all worked out.

I like the S15 too, piss on the naysayers. Do what you want, it's yours.

#1,514 ·
Haha I do that from time to time to see where it's come from and what still needs doing.
