Sounds like a slave cylinder.

 

You mean while the car is running? Like while you drive it? The clutch adjustment could be incorrect as well. If it is too tight, your clutch will be in all the time even when you press down. You adjust id down by the clutch pedal. Try that first. Then, could be slave or master cyl.

 

First thing i would check is whether or not the slave master sylinder is moving when a friend presses the clutch pedal. that way you will have some idea of what's going on.

 

yeah lets say i roll up to a stoplight, stop, then go to put the car in first and it wont go. or at times when i first start the car up and try to go into reverse it wont go either.

 

Will it go into 1st if you pump the clutch pedal a few times then?

 

no thats normally the first thing i try and it has no effect on if it will go in gear or not

 

if its not the master/slave cylinder you should consider buying a new clutch.

 

really sounds like an adjustment issue, as you said it works fine when you are moving. That means that the system is probably working properly, but the clutch isn't getting released completely.

 

so i bled the clutch today at the slave cyl and that took care of it. im not leakin fluid just takin on a little air somewhere in the system. Since the clutch was bled and workin fine about two weeks ago and the driveability decresed gradually within the last week

 

sounds like the pressure plate, what clutch are you running? Troubleshoot the hydrolyics first, then buy a new clutch kit.

 

My rb20 tranny is weird sometimes. When its first starting out and I pull outta the garage in reverse, it has a hard time engaging into reverse rarely( a common Nissan problem I believe). But I"ll put it in first and then put in reverse and engages no problem, seems really odd but still works!

 

im runnin an os giken triple plate, i doubt the clutch or pressure plate is bad since after a good bleeding the tranny felt like it should

 

I'm glad it was a simple fix. BTW that is not wierd at all about reverse. First and reverse share syncro's or something like that. It is common in LOTS of trannys.

 

My KA tranny did the same thing, your probably right s14-240, WHAT THE HELL NISSAN!

my ka does it as well into reverse, takes a good reving while in N sometimes to get it into reverse, i feel like an idiot when new ppl are in my car and i am struggleing to find reverse.. lol

 

My buddies dsm does it too, and my friends fwd 200sx, and his geo tracker. It just the way lots of them are. The newer trannys where you have to pull up on the ring to put it in reverse eliminate it. Also, vdubs have never had that problem, as you have to push down on the shifter to go in reverse.

 

LoL wow that really reminds me of a time when I saw a guy in a parking lot! I was backing out of my stall and he was directly behind me backing out as well and I saw his face looking behind him, waved him to go first. I guess he had it in first instead of reverse and smoked the guy in front of him hahahaha then I stalled my car cuz I was laughing so friggin hard

well its good to kno the reverse problem is normal, and little240boy good story.

 

usualy on manual boxes most car manufacturers wont syncronize reverse hence the hard to get into feeling when trying to shift into reverse from neutral.
putting it in first will line up the reverse gears tho, so if it doesnt want to go, try first then reverse.
else try a right nasty scolding, sometimes works.......

 

yea I have that same issue with tryin to get it into gear on my mustang. Unfortunatly for the reverse issue, i have to put it into 5th then pull it into reverse or else itll bang into gear...its supposed to unlock the reverse gear without having to force it in and not destroy the syncro or grind the gears(ahhh..the genious minds over at ford). I dont have that problem on my 240 though...well because its an automatic as of right now.
