It is a very involved swap. I'm running a first-gen 350 Chevy small block with a T5. You basically have to cut out half of the firewall because the bellhousing is larger than that on a KA/SR. Other than that you will basically have to pull the dash and rebuild the whole front end from scratch.

The mounts are different from the LS1 so no one makes a bolt in kit. The sbc mounts are a good 3-4" forward of the subframe so you have to fabricate some mounts.

I would not attempt this swap unless you are very good with fabrication.

 

I have a 406 in my 96 but I’m still trying to figure out what I want to do with the front end.

 

this topic is kind of old but if you can put a ls1 in a 87 monte without a problem why cant you put a monte motor in a s13 with ls1 mounts? there both basicly the same size

I'm doin the sbc swap myself and have all the parts to start mocking the engine bay up. My question is, since im using a tb350 tranny, will the stock oem tranny cooler on the s13 '89 work with the tb350?

 

Just get the LS-1 installation kit and have some of these made. The thing is the these plates are used to bolt Gen 3/4 engines to Gen 1/2 motor mounts. You need to customize them to bolt Gen 3/4 motor mounts onto Gen 1/2 engines.

 

Do you have any picks of how you did the front subframe?
