Let me start by introducing myself. my name is Tim, i HAD a 1990 300ZX 2+2 but recently things went down hill and now she's totalled =[ i had liked the s14 bodystyle just never got into it. i want to stay in the nissan family... anyway i'm going to be buying a 240sx probably the 97 body style and my question is this. were there any recalls that should be looked into, faults in the car and things that can go horribly wrong with the car? i plan to eventually do an sr20det swap but that wouldnt be for a while. so what i'd like to know is how well does the stock 240 motor hold up at high milage, what are common simptoms to look for etc etc. what are "spec" compression numbers and things like that. any help will be greatly appreciated. thankyou so much in advance

Ka holds high mileage really good. They are known to last 200k +. I got a 96 with 190k and it's going STRONG. I track this bitch every month and still not getting any big engine problems. Check the frame if that's straight, and exterior of course. Button line, there is nothing you can't fix on a car. Make sure the exterior is straight, if you run into problems, dig in and fix it.

my friend has a 93 w/ a list of mods, He runs it atleast 7 times on the weekend and puts 70 miles of rush hour traffic everyday. It's got 200,000 miles and is just starting to have problems. I own a 97 240 w/ 93,000 miles on it and I've never owned a car that runs this good. There wonderful cars and alot of fun, I highly recommend one.

Driftkat.com has recalls ;) it's my site...

I would say though not knowing the condition of your 90 2+2, that the 240SX should cost more....97-98's in great shape are $10k easy...not counting those that got lucky.

I had $15k to spend took me 6 months and I got lucky at $8800 for a 98 white 5spd SE with about 70k on the clock and just dirty inside and out. There was about $2k in maintanence needed to be perfect...(tension rods, tie rods, misc interior bits, the full 75k maintenance, etc)...

you think that 97-98 240's would be around 5-7g in 2 years?Cuz thats when i plan on getting mine and thats my budget,
it you were planning a high 5 figure to 6 figure car that is one thing...but I am willing to be in 2 years you'll have forgotten the 240SX.

Maybe not though of course, however this post is a more immediate one and not one of bench racing. I originally started debating 944 turbo vs KA-t a few years ago.

The 240SX won out...

However, predicting a cars value is impossible...it's all supply and demand based. If the 240SX 'takes off' then in 2 years the Koukis are going to be expensive....there were only about 5000 of them built, included automatic and base models.

The S13 in any given year out produced the whole S14 line. I personally feel the Kouki will always be the sought after one. Be it 2,3...or 10 years from now.

That said I don't think the S13 will be forgotten either. Two different cars.

good luck on it.

I will be picking one up in 2 weeks. I finally found a 97 SE, red, 5-speed. Yea they are pricy but its OK. The only thing that sucks as far as i can tell is the seats. The interior need to be wrapped in better cloth or leather. Other then that, the car is beautiful in every way.
Sorry to hear about your loss but at least your staying in the Nissan family. Im in the same boat almost. Ive been through 2 maximas and now im forced to get rid of it because of theft.

The cloth color you may not care for, but the material and assembly is very top notch.

I had a guy down the street from my sisters decide to sell his ment condition red 5-speed 240w/ lsd and a five-lug. and she is ment. Buy this car and you'll never regret it. this is my 3rd car and second nissan and I wouldn't trade this car for the world.

i prob have 1000 bucks into it it is a do it yourself project. i have an s14 and put a s13 trans in it, it works great the hardest part was finding a decently priced driveshaft. as for the pedals, i got the clutch pedal and slave cylinders from the s13, i didnt feel like replacing the brake pedal so i put a cutting wheel on my dremel and made a template of the clutch pedal and marked it on the brake pedal and the cut some off of each side of the pedal, it looks great, and i got nismo racing pedal cover so you cant even tell.

Depending on the pricing on the driveshaft, it may be cheaper to have shop make one. I had an aluminum one built for my mustang at a Truck Axle and Brake shop...ultra heavy duty and better U-Joints. It was under $300 I believe (like 1989/1990).

i have a '97 with 148K miles on it and it runs like a champ. I bought it for $4500 off some guy who didnt know what he had...the only problem i've had with it so far is bad window motors and window switches, like the above poster said. Again, i'd highly recommend it. I've owned a few cars, and this is by far the nicest i've ever had.

one thing to think about, going from a z32 to a 240sx is going to be quite uncomfortable, im still trying to get used to it. im going from a nice leather 3000gt to a 97 240 with cloth and these seats suck, not too mention the 3 spoke steering wheel, the ultra lite gas pedal (im definitely gonna fix this), and the fact that its lowered.

i lucked out with mine, 3500 for a 97 with 36000 miles.... even though it had been damaged it still was straight and ran so well i nearly lost control because i didnt expect it to have that kind of a power. on the down side that mean i cant really tell you what problems to expect, except leaky sunroofs. mines pretty bad and from what ive heard most people seal them shut. the ka motors run hard and great if they have been mantained properly. when you find one look as much as you can into that car, carfax it and asked the owner for any recepts from any repair work so you can get an idea of what has been done to the car already. good luck and welcome to the 240 family!
