Ok you guys probaly all remember me from the thread trade my bike for a 240..Well I got an email someone wants to trade my 98 ranger and my 04 r1 for his s14 with a sr20 swap.

Im going tomorrow to look at his car..What should I look for so I dont get ripped off. Body is pretty mint has dints dent and scratches as it is older. He has had this car for 6 years.

All I really know about it is dealer swapped car has like 190k on it but motor had 0 miles on it when installed..Its running 15 pounds on a gt2871r turbo..I only know mitsubishi turbos so I dont know anything about it size wise. Also has a greddy oil pan that holds like 3 more quarts of oil.

From what I read you gotta keep up on the oil with the sr20s. But I do all my cars.

What should i look for tomorrow?

Edit..has parts
jdm redtop
front mount with hot pipe
hks bov
apexn1 catback
megan racing downpipe
3 inch test pipe
greddy turbo outlet pipe
walbro 255
nismo motor mounts
battery in trunk
weapon r catch can
single fan with adj fan control
greddy profec b spec boost controller
hks wastegate actuator
nismo shift knob
stuff stuff and stoppers
b&g 1.0" springs
spc rucas
tein traction rods
z32 slave clyinder
z32 fuel filter
custon harness
new windsheild

I wrote this down same way he listed it.

Personally, I think you're getting screwed on this deal. A R1 and a Ranger, for a 14? I wouldn't do it. If you do, I would only trade the bike. If that car acts like any other swapped car running around on this forum, you are going to need to keep the truck to haul parts/get your ass to work. Just my $.02 ;)

agreed although my sr 240 runs fine know that its had some tlc.
So do these cars/motors break down alot?
No, they don't break down alot. I have an opinion about swapped SRs, but I'll keep it to myself. Anyway, not all SR swaps are going to screw you, like Catch240 said they can be good. I would look at what you paid for the bike vs. the price of the car. I wouldn't trade both vehicles.

As far as swaps, they can be good and they can run fine, but you have to be careful. Some people make a living doing crappy swaps and then selling them to the uneducated. I have a Silvia, that came equipped with an SR20DET from the factory, and I've never had a problem with it. The motor/car have been around since 1995. If you take care of the SR, like any other motor, then it will treat you well. If you just start throwing boost at it and not tuning it and taking care of it, then you will start to have problems.

it would us well if you shared your opinion of SR swaps Rlong.
Well the car wasnt kinda a peice..Body kit was tore off and the slave cylinder busted right when he was leaving his house..I told him I couldn't do both..Hell I couldn't even trade the bike..

Ok, I don't want to totally threadjack. However, after being on this forum for the short time that I have, it seems like most swaps have problems. Why? Mostly because it's inexperienced guys with no maintenance experience attempting the swap, or it's a shady shop trying to make money off of naive teens. Don't get me wrong, I love my SR, but if you gave me the choice of owning a USDM 240 with a KA-T (with it's OE KA) or a 240 with a SR/RB swap,I would probably choose the KA. OEM usually = reliable. I wouldn't go through the trouble or spend the money to swap a powerful turbo motor into a chassis that is no newer than 12 years old. I know there are plenty of good running swapped cars running around on this forum and in the States, not every swapped car is full of problems. So yeah, that's just my personal opinion.

To 1Fast, be careful with that car. It sounds like a heap of trouble.
Thanks..Ya im going to walk away from this one..Thanks for all the help guys i appreciate it.
I know what's like to be eager about buying a new car, but don't let it cloud your judgment. I jumped into a cherry MX-6 because I was in love with it. Loaded, manual tranny attached to a six cylinder motor. I jumped into it so quickly that I didn't bother to notice the $450 a month payments, at a staggering 20% interest rate. I gathered my senses the next day, luckily it was within the 150 mile return window. Keep looking around and come back here if you need anymore advice.
Thanks man I appreciate it.
