lol I still have yet to make mine so for now all I have:

This is a really old pic, not as old as the date says but about 4 months. Since then I added a bungie cord to keep the filter from bending down like that and also the aiv is completly gone. I am going to make the intake go to were the battery is and move the battery to the trunk, but I'm lazy so maybe that will be my newyears resolution.

what I have now or the custom intake? Well for the one in the pic you need a cone filter, maf adapter, electrical tape, and an oil breather. The only hoses removed are the one to the valvecover and the one that connects the AIV(that little box near the engine) to the airbox. They have been taped off by electrical tape.

I got my adapter from ebay. yeah and make sure you prop it up with a bungie cord which I got from walmart.when it bends down like that it tends to bog, what I mean by that is: when you hit the gas is it jerksforward pause for a sec and then continue to accelerate. The cord keeps it up and you will be able to hear it sucking in air and it will accelerate more smoothly.

I'm suprised this thread hasn't become a mack fest lol

Rather than having a bungee and looking ghetto I'd recommend making some sort of heat shield.
For one it'll keep the heat from the engine bay mostly out, and for two it will look FAR LESS ghetto lol. I dunno though thats just me, I don't particularly like having bungees supporting things in my car. ;)
yeah I've thought about a heat shield but then for some reason I kinda forgot about it lol.

well I heard the best way to locate a hatch leak is to have someone smoke out the car while you stand outside and see where the smoke comes out.

hmmm....

As far as the worth of a custom intake if you don't think its worth it then don't do it. There are always risks of f'ing up your car when you decide to mod it. But seriously messing up your maf is not even a good reason, its easy to avoid and if it does happen there is a place called the junkyard. I think the better excuse is "dude I have hatch leak."
